We have a regular water table and also a sand and water table that ds got for his 1st birthday.
He loves them both equally. The sand and water table is nice because it can be used indoors and outdoors. In the summer, we filled it with sand and water and it was like a mini-beach. He had his sand toys and had a blast. He made a mess, but it wasn't a big deal. In the winter, we moved it into the playroom and filled it with dried beans only on both sides. He was able to use his shovels and stuff and still enjoyed it.
The water table is nice because if you just want to let him play outside without making a mess, it came in handy. But for the most part, we just brought it with us places (the beach, my parents house, my IL's house, etc). DS always had a toy to play with.
I have the Step 2 one that the first two posters have. DS really loved it last summer. I think its definitely worth the money. I meant to fill it with beans this winter too, but I never found bulk beans anywhere and it would have cost a fortune to fill it with the tiny bags of beans my grocery store sells!
Re: Can you recommend your water table?

We have this one, which I would not recommend. Make sure whatever you get has a lid that fits on snugly. This table is flimsy and yucky.
