Verity Ellen

Verity is Latin for Truth and Ellen is my mom's middle name.  I am in love with it!

this. i took latin and it was in the motto for my middle/ upper school. verity is related, though, so it might as well be translated as truth.

and this too. sorry, it sounds kind of weird as a name for a little girl (or a grown woman for that matter). ellen is cute.

I hate to say anything negative about the name since you love it...

On the other hand, you did post it here so I assume that you want opinions....so, it is NMS.  Verity sounds like a bank, sorry.  It is different though if that is what you are looking for...

Also, I associate "veritas" as Latin for "truth"; not verity even though it's a form of the word. I don't think Verity sounds like a real name.

Charity and Chastity were two of the names the puritans used to ensure that their children would get into heaven. Along with Patience, Prudence, Faith, Hope, and ***. It's like naming the seven dwarves. At any rate, you could play that angle because Truth fits right in. 

 

Verity...could work. It's different and she might choose to go by Vera or Ellen...

I don't know Latin, so when I hear that name I immediately hear "Variety Ellen". If you are like the truth reference why not go with Ellen True or something. Still unique (and not my personal style) but sounds a little less made up.

If you know someone with the last name she obviously didn't make it up!!!  Try and think before you comment!  She told you where it came from...its a form of the Latin word!

While I don't love it, it isn't made up...I have known 2 people with this name, neither of whom are low class.

First of all, I have to agree with this comment.  Whenever someone responds as saying a name sounds low class, it always begs the question- what classifies someone or something as low class?  It's just offensive. 

That said, I'm not a huge fan of using Verity as a name, but it's far from being the worst idea I've ever heard.

It's nms.  I would actually prefer Truth as a name over Verity.  I also read it as "variety" on accident at first.  Aleta also means "truth".
