So at my 12 week appt, my dr was on vacation, and the other dr in the practice was at a delivery. So i only saw the Nurse Techs and the Nurse Practitioner, which was not a big deal.
But the Nurse Tech went through my file, and looked at my urine analysis and said, "Oh, it shows that you are dehydrated, you need to drink more water!"
I had been experiencing chapped lips etc even though I had totally upped my water intake, which I told her. She said, no, you need to drink even more.
So over the last 4 weeks I upped my water intake even more...
At Monday's appt (week 16), I asked the doctor if I was still dehydrated, or if I was finally drinking enough water. She looked at me funny, and I told her that at the last visit I was told that I was dehyrdated.
So she looked back through the files, and shook her head. "They read the analysis backwards. You were (and are) drinking too MUCH water. You should back off a bit"
SERIOUSLY... thank god... I was peeing all the freakin' time and having a hard time downing that much water.
And now that I'm drinking less, my lips aren't chapped! LOL. I'm glad I asked her!

Is there something as too much water? Really????? I mean, we pee it all...?
it is kinda counterintuitive, but you can drink too much water. If you keep peeing, you are losing electrolytes, just like when you sweat a lot. If you keep drinking pure water, and peeing out all of your electrolytes, you are going to have an electrolyte imbalance. your body can go into shock. Mind you, you do have to drink A LOT to be drinking "too much."

I wasn't drinking that much to be worried. But it is possible.
Also, she based that on my urine analysis. Apparently my dr's office measures the specific gravity of your urine.

Well, I think it's different for each person. Typically they say 8 8-oz glasses per day (64 oz) and then when you're pregnant I've heard 8-10 8-oz glasses per day. It's best to check with your doctor.
