mad dogs

my two dogs are going to be so mad when we bring two babies home. they are used to being the center of our worlds. i know there are things to do to help them, but still i cant help but feel a little sad for them because it will be a big adjustment for them no matter what we do. my poor furry babies.

Re: mad dogs

  • You may be surprised.  I was worried about how my fur babies would react before I brought DS home but I was pleasantly surprised.  My dog was only about a year old at that time and she would lay near DS a lot.  When he was old enough to play, you would find her within a few feet of him lying down, keeping watch.  In fact, she and DS have an incredible bond now.

  • I don't know about dogs but I have three cats. My cats totally follow my lead with people. I coach my friends and family on how to talk to them to illicit the most affectionate and friendly reactions (they are total AWs) and we never have a problem.

I think that animals will sense your feelings and you need to be sensitive to theirs. Send a blanket home withe the babies' scent on it (you will need two) so that they can be prepared for the new additions.?

  • I have two dogs, one very large, and one very small. The larger one LOVES babies. It's so cute, she is super protective of them, I know she'll love our little Ian. But my smaller dog HATES babies. She's so jealous, because she's used to being the baby. She wants NOTHING to do with them. I hate to break her little heart, but she's going to have to get used to it. lol.
  • I have two small dogs and I am terrified about how they will feel when I bring a baby home. I guess I have to start giving them less and less attention. Maybe that will lessen the blow when the time comes...

  • Our dog we got from the shelter in October. She is a major sweetie, and loves when my sisters 3 year old comes over, so I don't think she will have any problem. My cat, she lived with my mom when dh and I also lived with my mom, and my sister and new baby did at that point too (long story, it was a very full house) but my cat was curious but fine with the baby, one of the other cats almost had a heart attack! Who knows why the baby scared the witts out of him.
