Hey! Unfortunately we did not get a pediatrician before Ethan was born and I really, really regret it. At the time we thought he would just see our family doctor. He went there a few days after he was born and then a week after that. They were great but I just started thinking I'd rather go to a more kid centered practice and wanted a pedi. Now after going to one today I am much happier. It makes a huge difference. Kenmar has 2 offices, one somewhere near Kennestone and the one that we went to in Acworth. The drs rotate. For example, they told me Dr. McGee is at the Acworth office on Tues, Wed, & Fri, off on Mon, and then at Kennestone on Thurs. So you can see her (or another dr of course) at whichever is more convienent for you. The Acworth office is new and really nice. They had a sick and well waiting room. All of the nurses were very sweet and helpful. I'm pretty sure that this practice visits Kennestone and I so regret not finding them sooner so they could have come. The on call pedi came instead, someone from East Cobb Pedi. The dr was not very nice and now we're having problems with what they're charging us from the visit. Several friends of ours rec them and I know there are several on the nest that use them and said they were happy too. Anyway, YES I suggest you get someone now!! lol
Oh yeah, I called their advice line last week with a question about his shots for his appt today. I left a message and they called me back about 10-15 min later and were again very helpful. I thought it was great that they called back so quickly for a question that wasn't even time sensitive.
Re: Scarlet
Yes, we got all 3, hep, vitamin K, and the eye ointment. I'm not sure if all of those or any are optional? I didn't remember them being optional but I do remember them saying when he got them was optional. Immediately after he was born they put him in the warmer and did those things. They also did the apgar, checked him over, washed him, and all that good stuff then. This was all in our room so we watched it all. I considered delaying these things a few hours since I'd heard some people like to do that. I did not and was really happy that I didn't. They have things they have to do with them right then anyway and I was happy to get those little things done and out of the way. Then they didn't have to come in the room later and mess with him again.
Did the person on your tour give you a reason why they thought you shouldn't get the shot? I know some like to delay it so that they can bond with the baby right away, but I didn't see that as an issue. They put him right up on me when he was born. He was in the room having things done and then they gave him right back and I nursed right away. It worked out great and I was really happy with it. He actually had his second dose of hep today so I'm glad he had the first then so he wouldn't be late on it and off schedule. When reading about vacs I have seen so many things about babies not being vaccinated and coming in contact with someone else who wasn't and then getting sick etc. It's scary and hard to make all of these decisions. Someone on here rec'd The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears to me and it's very good. It is divided up by shot and gives good info about each with pros and cons. I found it cheap on amazon.
