On the other hand, hand-in-hand, LOL, I hate it when people ask me what I'm having. I reply that I don't know yet. They then ask "well, how could you have bought a travel system already if you don't know what you're having?" Seriously, does everything have to be matchy-matchy gender specific?!
This is why I'm trying to make as much of my own stuff as I can.
I'm doing this as well. I have a month break from graduate school in May, so I plan on making Max's name in wooden letters, framing pictures myself, making my own curtains, etc... It will keep me from going nuts for a month, while giving my son the room that won't scare him at night.

My mom is awesome - she's giving me her practically new sewing machine and serger, since she has ordered herself a fabulous new sewing machine and serger set, LOL. So, I'm looking forward to making my own curtains, we're making a quilt, and I'm making some pillows. Yeah, some cartoony stuff, but not anything branded. Just cute animals.??
I can't seem to find a crib. Bedding frightens me because it all feels cartoon-y and lame.
The only thing I'm not horrified by is the artwork I have my heart set on.
Ditto, ditto ditto....I am no rush to get a crib. They all look the same and I just don't care that much. All I know is that I want a dark, dark brown. It's all confusing to me. Alll the bedding is waaay too cartoon-y and lame. That's why I am going with all white and not an actual set, but only a sheet and a crib skirt.
Like you, the only thing I have my heart set on is the artwork and I have had that picked out from the beginning.
Okay - calling it nursery "paraphernalia" totally cracked me up. All I can think of is DRUG paraphernalia. : )
I didn't buy into most of the nursery hype or the things we "need." Now pregnant with #2, I'm even worse. We used old bedroom furniture in the baby's room (except for the crib, of course). It's nice because we didn't spend a fortune and it won't need to be replaced when the baby isn't a baby anymore. Both of our children's bedroom furniture is good enough to last until college if the little creatures don't destroy it first.
I break into hives looking at the BRU site and practically have a seizure if I have to go inside.
I suffer the same affliction. ?I went through the store with my MIL and she kept asking me to point out the kind of stuff I liked. ?Sorry, I didn't bring my laptop with my Etsy, Ikea, and giggle.com bookmarks.?

Then skip the bedding crap. It's pretty much a rip off anyway. They sell solid color crib sheets as well as patterned ones seperately from the sets. Just get some sheets and call it done. They sell solid color dust ruffles by themselves too if you want one. Pick one that matches your artwork. There, you're done. Oh, and buy the cheapest crib that you can stand to look at. Voila!
The bumpers, the diaper stacker, the valance, the cutsey lamp, the quilt that you can't actually put in the crib with a baby... all a bunch of overpriced junk.
Re: I truly loathe the majority of nursery paraphernalia.
Totally agree.

For the life of me I don't understand the diaper-stacker-bag things....
I'm there with ya!

Red I totally agree with you. I went into BRU to buy a shower gift and could not get out fast enough. Very overwhelming.
