2nd Trimester

bummed about Dr.'s appt.

Was sent to a specialist last week b/c my blood platelets are low. Dropped from 112,000 Dec. to 88,000 Mar. and gave more blood today. I'm a big pansy and feared the whole l/d and I found out that below 100,000 (some dr's say below 75,000) = no epidural! And they don't treat you until you get 30-50,000! WTH! I also have a fear of blood and needles and this is just another one of life's ironic ways as I have to do this every 3 weeks now. I totally give it up to the ones who choose to go w/o, but I don't know how I'll make it!

Good new is, I get to have more u/s!!

  • It has to do w/ your blood clotting and your platelet count is normally around 150-350,000 and it usually drops a little when your pg. If they were to give an epidural below 100, or 50,000 then it could damage your spine, blood clot issues, etc. They have checked LO and he appears to be doing good, although they won't know if he is anemic until after I deliver. But they won't use forceps, vaccum, etc. since they don't know. They've also checked his blood flow and he appears to be okay. But just in case, they are going to keep checking him. It's pretty confusing, hoped this helped!
  • that helps thanks
