Were they conceived naturally?

"No sweetie, there is nothing natural about what we were doing when they were conceived.  You see we'd just seen Cirque de Soleil..."

OMG!  I said this while googly eyeing her husband.  My DH was proud and mortified.  Somehow TMI shuts people up faster than lectures about how rude, or sweet polite responses.  Now I just wish there really was some ridiculous story like that.  Oh well!

  • That is an awesome come back! I wish I was that quick witted!
  • I get asked this question ALL the time. I'm usually prertty quick with responces but I get tongue tied with this one. I'm always caught off guard. I will be putting this answer in my back pocket for a world of fun next time someone asks me that.

  • Can I steal that?  I'm an open book about my IVF but that doesn't mean I want to discuss in line at Target or on my walk through the neighborhood.
  • LOL, I love it!

  • Nicely done!  Sigh-some people are so rude.  What does it matter how they were conceived, and why is it anyone's business anyway?  I think I might steal that one from you, too.  You should come up with a good story around that-bonus points!
  • I went through a lecturing phase of you don't know how ridiculous and hurtful that question can be, particularly if you say it to someone who has struggled...etc.  Deaf ears.  I tried the polite, "yes" and "how do you mean"  but just not satisfying.  I tried being rude and asking about the state of one woman's vagina, and procedures she had done, but this was much more fun!

  • Yep, I love the "what drugs did you use?" question. I alternate between "a nice bottle of wine" and "Jack Daniels - straight".  Usually shuts em up. The question bothers me and I didn't have to go through all kinds of stress and pain and infertility - I can only imagine what it does to those of you who did have to go through it!
  • my snarkist response (while pg - no one has asked yet bc we havent made our public debut) was:

Yes - sperm met egg twice and then I just walked away.

  • Anyone who is fortunate enough to get pregnant, by whatever means necessary, is extremely lucky.  It doesn't matter what was or was not used to help.  I was lucky enough not to need any type of fertility assistance, thought I might because my family has a history of trouble, but I think this question is just outright rude.  Like others have said, its no one's business.
  • I just bought the Girls' T-shirts that say "Organically Grown"...I love IT!!!
