sad thoughts = less supply

my return to work countdown has begun and i swear since i've starting thinking about it, my pumping sessions (just two a day right now) has decreased anywhere between 1-3 oz...do you think that's the issue, or am i just having a general supply issue?  any suggestions?  thx

  • I know that emotions can greatly affect the let down.  If you're feeling anxious about going back to work, especially while pumping, it could certainly prevent you from getting as much milk while pumping.  Try distracting yourself while you pump.  I DVR certain TV shows specifically to watch while pumping b/c they are a good distraction and help me relax.

  • Stress is my #1 supply killer.  I usually pump in the morning before work and get around 7 ounces; while i am stressed about leaving on time, DS is gets fussy cause he wants his oatmeal, etc.  Today I waited until I got to work and played on the internet while pumping and I got 10 oz!  Huge difference!  So I would say you should try to think of something pleasant while you pump or watch DC play/sleep.
