? about frat/identical

We have no idea what the boys are.  I found out today that there were two placentas, so they could be either.  The boys both have A+ blood, does their blood type narrow it down?  Can fraternals have the same blood type?  I don't much about twins, so sorry if this is a stupid question.  TIA!!

Re: ? about frat/identical

  • Yep, fraternals can have the same blood type.  So basically the only way to know if they have the same blood type and two placentas is to do a DNA test.

  • fraternals can have the same blood type just as any sibs can.  My sister and I have the same blood type because my parents did and were not twins.

  • I thought seperate placentas meant that they leaned toward fraternal?

Yes, seperate placentas are more likely to mean fraternal, but not always. If the egg splits very early, they can each get their own placenta, just like if it splits late, they share everything. Sometimes fraternal placentas can fuse together, so they look like they're going to be ID, and it turns out they're fraternal.

You only know for sure if they are different genders, have different blood types/eye color etc, monos, conjoined. Otherwise it's speculation until a DNA test confirms.

ahem...miss Laura...we're all waiting for results to confirm your boys ID!?
