Hello ... my dd weighed 6 lbs 8 oz at birth. Our last weight check was Saturday and she was 6 lbs 11 oz. I am no longer breastfeeding because she isn't strong enough to nurse ... she was only getting 1/3 an ounce during a 30 minute feeding. I'm pumping all I can and bottle feeding & supplementing with formula.
Earlier this week she started having blood in her dirty diapers. The doctor thinks she's allergic to formula. Has anyone experienced this? We're now using hypoallergenic Similac and there is still a small amount of blood, but much less in her diapers. However, she's very fussy after drinking a formula bottle and her dirty diapers seem very runny. We go back to the doctor tomorrow and I'll ask them, but wanted to know if anyone has had similar experiences.
Re: weight gain issues & allergic to formula?
You said you're pumping and giving her the breastmilk.. Are you stealing eating dairy? It's processed through your body into your breastmilk and can cause that reaction.
I was off dairy for a LONG time (like 8 months) and it sucks.. but if she's truly suffering an MSPI, it's something you have to do.
As for your siggy picture, I resized for ya.

Thank you both for the helpful information. I am going to cut out all dairy and hopefully that helps her feel better.
and thank you for adjusting my picture! much better.
No problem.
And don't expect an immediate change. It takes a little time to get everything out of your system and hers.
Also, you can still have butter. Since it's mainly fat and not protein, it's usually fine.
I started trying to avoid butter and was going crazy. Butter is in EVERYTHING.
One of our NICU nurse's sons has a true milk allergy and she's had to go to a Vegan diet, though. (God bless her soul.)
