RP from 2nd tri: Chroid Plexus Cysts (CPC)...anyone?

We went in for another u/s today and they noticed CPC in our little boy's brain.  I know that it is not something to freak out about yet, but it still has me concerned.  I go back in 4  weeks for a level 2 u/s to check to see if it is still there.  Anyone else go through/going through this?

Thanks!

PS our little girl does not have it.

  • yup Cooper had them...two in fact! they are EXTREMLY COMMON. so much so that my U/S tech said that out of the 10 woman she had seen that day 6 had had them! They are freaky and of course you worry but try not to :)

the cysts stuck around for about 8 weeks and them bam were gone...

  • PP is totally right.  CPCs are very common, and the vast majority resolve themselves without any issue.  Both of our babies had a CPC at 19 weeks; at 23 weeks, they were gone.  Try not to worry about it - your boy will be fine!
  • The same thing happened to us.  They noticed them on Baby B (my son's) brain at like 14 weeks and by 20 weeks they were gone.  They told me it was very common.  And, as you can see from the picture below, my son is fine!
  • They showed up in both my twins' ultrasound at 21 weeks and were gone by the 24 week ultrasound.  I was told it was very common.

We were told Baby A had one in utero, and when they were born and in the nicu, they did scans again and they said that Baby A did not have one but Baby B did.  They didn't switch places in me or get mixed up (they look different) so i think things resolved or developed.  . . either way, my girls are fine and as long as they don't have any other signs that something is odd in the next ultrasouunds, yo ushould not worry. I think we looked for things like they were opening and closing their hands, and their facial features were distinct.

Don't worry about a thing for now.  It's extremely common and often inconsequential.

  • My baby b had one at our 19 week ultrasound and when we went back 3 weeks later it was gone.  They are extremely common, and as long as baby has no other symptoms they are nothing to worry about... they checked to make sure both babies had fully formed and functional hands and feet, that their palates were fully developed and a couple of other things, but everything else was normal... our doc in Portland told us he worked with another doc and all 4 of his kids had them in utero and are really smart now so he sees them as an indicator of genius :)

  • One of our boys had them but it ended up going away after several weeks.  good luck!  It scared us, too!
