How do you go shopping with 2?

I am babysitting my nephew now and he is the same age as my daughter (14 months)...so it is like I am caring for twins most of the day.  Anyway I need to run the occasional errands but am terrified of bringing 2 out of the house.  I tried storytime once and it was so difficult.  How would I go about shopping?  Do you carry one in a carrier and put one in the cart?  Both in cart...if so where.  I know these are silly questions but I need to prepare myself.  I don't have a double stroller.

  • If it were me, I would only run errands to places I knew had the shopping carts with seats for two children (like Costco, grocery stores with the carts that look like cars, etc).  I would save other errands for when you don't have your nephew or in the evenings.  Anything else would stress me out too much!  Confused

  • you can put on in the cart and the other in your single stroller and do the "push the stroller, pull the cart" trick. ?i "ran errands" with my 2 yesterday and after 3 stores i was beat...the 30 lb stroller in and out of the car and the babies in and out of the car just about killed me.

  • I used to cram them both into the seat of the cart, each of them had a leg out the leg hole of the cart and one smooshed up leg. But now they're too big for that trick :(

Yesterday I took them to Target and sat one in the basket seat and the other in the cart part. It worked for about 15 minutes until the kiddo in the basket started standing up and shaking the cart (like he shakes his crib). Then I switched their positions and they were good for about another 15 minutes - just long enough for me to finish the trip.

  • Before they are out of the carriers you can put one carrier in the seat and one in the cart-which doesn't leave much room for other things so I use the flat bed under the cart. Most stores accomodate that.

    After that you get creative.

Destructo- Hee! Hee! I tried the cart/seat this week, too. As soon as I did it I thought 'why did I do this?' But DD hadn't figured out to stand up the first time-she is still easily distracted. Must come up with a different solution...foresee the same issue as they age.

If I go to Target or somewhere with carts with only 2 leg holes, I put one in the front child seat and the other in the main part of the cart.  At the grocery store I use the "car" cart.  Also, I try to park right next to a cart return so I can just grab a cart and return it without leaving the car or having to carry them both into the store to get a cart (they walk but they're not very good at holding my hand and following me).
