2 solids a day?

When and how did you start 2 solids a day?  Our pedi told us to start at their 6 month appointment but I still haven't done it because it's such a pain to get everything ready, feed them, clean everything up etc... I know I should do it but it's just kind of a hassle.  Ok that makes me sound like a bad mom Smile

We've always done their one solids feeding as "lunch" at noon because mh comes home for lunch and helps me feed them.  Should I do the new one as breakfast?  dinner?  If it was either of those it will be pretty close to lunch so maybe I need to move it to only have breakfast/dinner and no lunch?  I'm completely undecided....

And if you do 2 meals a day do you do different foods at different meals?  Right now we mix in a fruit or veggie with a cereal at every meal.

Re: 2 solids a day?

  • I just moved to 2 meals a day because they were not making it to their last bottle of the day with the 4 hour stretch. It has gone really well! I do cereal and fruit in the morning (before their morning nap) and then dinner..usually just a veggie at 5:30 or so. They seem to be hungriest in the  morning and evening, so this has worked out good for us.

That's what I did. Just added "lunch" a few weeks ago to have 3 meals in by the 9 month marker. ?

  • when we did 2, we did lunch and breakfast (now we do 3, yogurt for the 3rd one, dinner) for breakfast I give them oatmeal with fruit (usually apple and some other one) and for lunch, whole grain or rice cereal with veggies.?

  • we do fruit and cereal for breakfast (after milk) and then a veggie at lunchtime, sometimes mixed with cereal for consistency. i don't find it to be too much work as long as we are at home ;)  Depending on what we have going on for the day, i may make that second feeding later, like closer to dinner. We'll probably start adding in a third solid feeding over the next few weeks.
  • We do breakfast and dinner right now.  It works out that around 9 AM they have fruit and cereal. Around 5-6ish they have a veggie.  I swear, I feel like I spend most of my days making bottles, giving bottles, washing bottles, setting up for meals, feeding meals, cleaning up after meals (including Charlotte's). I will be in trouble when we throw the 3rd meal of the day in there.
