Very dumb question about nursing bras/tanks

I feel like I should know this now that I'm so far into the game, but I don't!  Do you wear a nursing bra UNDER a nursing tank or do you wear a nursing tank in lieu of a nursing bra?

I only have two nursing tanks so far and one nursing bra.  How many are you buying?

Re: Very dumb question about nursing bras/tanks

  • I wear one in lieu but if you feel like you need more support you can layer them!

  • 1. Nursing tank in lieu of a bra

    2. Don't buy anything else until your milk comes in and you can see what fits right, what you prefer to wear, etc.

  • The tanks are in lieu of a bra. I plan on wearing them at night (and i've been wearing them for a few weeks now b/c they're actually SUPER comfy!)

A nursing bra is what you'd wear just in place of a regular one.

  • I plan on wearing one or the other.  A nursing tank at home and a nursing bra under a regular shirt when I am on the go.  That's the plan anyway.

This is said a lot but - am I the only one who isn't thrilled about the idea of going out 3-days or so PP with a newborn trying to find nursing bras?

There has to be something to be done in the interim, right?

  • I just ordered a bra from Bravado Designs. Their website has excellent information about sizing and what to order based on your pre-pregnancy and third trimester size. You might find some good help there.

  • This is what I've been concerned about!!  Going out shopping right after the baby's born - with giant engorged breasts and completely exhausted?  no thanks

i think its a great idea to have 1-2 nursing tanks which come in sizes like S, M, L. but pp is right... Motherhood told me that since I was in a D cup at the end of my pregnancy that i would need an E (as opposed to DD because thats how they size them apparently?) for a nursing bra because your breasts will get bigger still. not so much - my breasts went back down to a full C while i nursed.

keep in mind that with a couple day old baby you won't be *that* concerned about what you're wearing and all of that. additionally, you can breastfeed with a normal bra/shirt so it's not like you won't be able to wear anything should you run out of nursing bras/tanks and not have time to do laundry yet. they're just a convenience. i hated nursing shirts and didn't wear nursing bras after the first month or two and even then it was infrequent if i was going out because they weren't as flattering as my normal bras.
