When was your first growth scan?

My doctor asked me to schedule one at 32-34 weeks. The nurse on the phone when I just made my appointment asked me "if there was a certain reason why he asked to be scanned at 32-34 weeks" I  told her no, not that I knew of and that he just said to come back in 8-10 weeks which would be at 32-34 weeks.

She has me thinking there is a problem now... Paranoia is setting in!

Some nurses and techs can be irritating. They assume you're just an idiot pregnant woman and don't know you've already talked to you doc. Or they think your doc is being stupid or something.

Anyway, I didn't get one and I won't get one. They just measure and do internals.

mine will be next friday, I will be 32 weeks and a few days.  they didn't make me feel like anything was wrong though, they just said they'd like to check the size.

To my knowledge you only need to get one if you are measuring 3+ weeks ahead or behind. Other than that there is no need for one and may not be covered under your insruance if there is no medical reason for one.

My dr wont give me one Some just do to make sure around that time that you are on target and that the head is down or making its way. My doc says no worries you are fine. How do I know this? Does he think just that one pic at 19 weeks is enough for the scrap book?

I won't be getting a growth scan unless something comes up that requires one (like a medical issue).

I think mine was at 36 weeks.  Just depends on your doctor's preference I guess.  If they do it too early it leaves too much room for variation.

she probably just wanted to know if there was a particular reason so that she could make a note in your file about it.  you know, so they could be on alert for certain things?  I'm not sure I have a "growth scan" persay but he checked the baby with u/s at 28 weeks and will again at 36. hth.

I have had two growth scans so far ( a week apart) one at 31 and 32 weeks. My dr usually only orders them if the baby is measuring 2-3 weeks ahead or behind... they can also get good pics of the amniotic fluid as well! If the dr didn't mention it to you it may just be a routine procedure in your clinic! GL

I have one at 37weeks 3 days on Monday and if everything looks good it will be my one and only.  The only reason I am having one at all is because I have been having alot of BH and they want to check fluid levels.

That's confusing because he measured right on time at my last appointment. The doctor told me he got great pictures and measured fine. But a few other girls I spoke with have also gotten growth checks at around 32 weeks so I considered it normal, until the nurse questioned me.

I don't know if this is the same thing...but I just had a serial ultrasound to check on baby's growth because of my hypertension/preeclampsia. They didn't do any internal, but they did check fluid levels and the flow of blood through the cord, and also guessed baby's size to see if he was within range. They will do another one in about a month (or sooner if my labs & BP get worse).

Unless your doc gave you a reason or you have some other medical issues, I wouldn't be concerned without talking to the doc first. The nurses probably have to ask for a reason for insurance and billing purposes.

I had my first growth scan at 25w and 4d.  That was due to pregnancy induced hypertention.  If I did not have that, I would not have had any growth scans.  The second one I had was at 29w and 5d and the final one was at 34w and 4d.

none for me I was measuring ahead and there was a posibility I might have one ... but now I'm only like a week ahead and doc said that's fine

same thing happened to me-  i was told there must be a reason why it was being scheduled.   Mine was last week (30w5d).  I had 2 reasons 1) i thought it was because i was measuring ahead since i was at the appt she wrote the script  and the other reason was HTN was written on the script (high blood pressure) which i guess was the official reason.

however when they asked me on the phone i was confused and didn't know how to answer and it freaked me out

I was 30w5d with my 1st growth scan.  I have a ton of problems, so they probably had a bunch of reasons listed because nobody asked why I was having one!

I'll be having another one in about 2-3wks.

I'm having one next week (32 weeks), but only because I have GD and the doctor wants to make sure he's not too big. She actually debated for a while about whether she even wanted me to do it, or not, but when she asked me if I wanted one, I said I always love a chance to see him again, so she scheduled it.
