Vaccine Fevers

How long do they last?  Polly still had a 101.8 temp this morning.  I gave her Motrin and it went down, but I am worried it will spike again bc she obviously still feels like total crap.  Brandi?  Anybody know?

Re: Vaccine Fevers

  • The only time that we got the fever was with the 9mth shots and I want to say it passed pretty quickly for us..like overnight or something.

  • I don't vaccine fevers are supposed to last that long.  She probably has a virus which is going to cause her fever to spike here and there all day long.  My bet is she has a virus and the fever is going to have to run its course.  Connor just got over yet again another virus last week and it lasted from Monday night until Friday morning.  His fever would come back and forth.
  • I called yesterday and the nurse INSISTED that the vaccine caused the fever.  I will be calling again if she spikes another fever.  The nurse said 48 hours.  Its my suspicion that this is NOT the vaccine.
  • I think your suspsions are correct especially if she is in daycare which she is.
  • Did she get her hepatitis shot?  That is what C got at her 9 month appt and the nurse specifically told me it should not cause a fever.

  • In our experience, DD typically runs a low-grade fever after vaccines for about 24 hours. When I say low-grade, I mean under 100.

  • I want to say 24 hours. Reid had a fever 3 days after his 6mo shots and when I called the Pedi and asked if it was related I was told that it was not.
Grant Thomas 8.8.06 and Reid Alexander 8.11.08
