3rd Trimester

my promised birth story...

We had a scheduled c-section for april 13th (this past monday) at 7:30am.  We were told to get in at 5:30am for bloodwork, iv, etc.  I knew this was going to happen to me, because stuff like this always does, but they bumped us because of an emergency section, so we were re-scheduled for approx 9am.  Then the nurse came in at 9am and they said my dr. had left to do something and wouldnt be back until about 10am...super!!!!  I was sooo nervous I just wanted it over with, so I was bummed.  But they finally got me at 10:15, i got my spinal (wasn't too bad) and then my catheder.  The spinal kicked in about 20 seconds after it was in.  They started cutting and i didnt even know.  I didnt feel a darn thing..only thing I felt was the pressure when they pulled him out.  He was born at 10:51am.

I actaully felt great thru the whole procedure..i considered myself very lucky.  Then, they wheeled me to my room...and thats when my luck changed.  When I started coming down from the spinal and maybe even the hormones..or even maybe the pain meds?!  I got a wave of nausea, so they gave me zofran thru IV.  I still felt gross, so they gave me another shot of it.  They said this would certainly make me feel better.  NOPE!  I got terrrible shakes/trembling and then started dry heaving for about 2 hrs.  I just closed my eyes and tried to imagine a "happy place" so my body could just go thru what it had to.  By 3pm my shakes and nausea subsided but then i got intense itching from the morphine so they gave me benedryl.  This actually helped overall with both nausea and the itching.

So today is 48hrs post-surgery and it's probably my most painful day so far.  My advice this time around is to take the pain meds...do not be bashful with them.  I am not a big fan of medications so last c-section I did not take full doses and tried to make it thru on minimal meds, but looking back that was dumb.  I can really tell the difference between being behind on the meds vs. taking them when given and being able to move.

Peeing sucks and pooping...well, i'm not even trying to think about that right now.  It's near impossible to control my pee...i feel like a broken watering can or something.  Not that i;m peeing my pants, but when i go i cant make a steady stream..its so weird.  Gas pain is crazy...i cannot wait until things go back to normal down there.

All in all it has been a decent experience so far and they say i'm recovering really well.  I've had very minimal disccharge/bleeding and my uterus i guess is really low already...they said thats good news too.

If anyone has any questions for me regarding a section just let me know...i'm a fresh patient and will give it to ya straight, so just ask!!  Good luck to the rest of you on your upcoming births.  Oh yeah, and our son is doing great!  Well, he's in right now getting c'sized, so he may think differently right now, but other than that he;s doing great!!!
