2) Don't you think it would be polite to tell us who exactly Big Brother is?
3) If you are going to ban someone, could we have the reason WHY at least?
4) Would it be possible to fill us in for how LONG they will be banned?
tia.
You do not yet have a volunteer moderator. When you have one their name will be listed at the top. Moderators on The Bump don't have the ability to delete (yet) so if posts are removed or members are banned that is because a Bump employee took them down.
When someone is banned, they receive an email informing them why they were banned as well as the length of time.
I'm still open to suggestions for the name of the board, but they have to be fitting for the board and can't contain profanity. Feel free to PM me if you have additional suggestions.
5. And maybe some consistancy. When someone gets banned for using a certain "term", it's really annoying to see another poster on another board use the same "term" and not get banned.

edit: within the same day or even the same hour.
We try our best to be consistent, but as you can imagine it's impossible for us to read every single post. When we have moderators in place it will be easier for us to be fair.

i agree with staycee. i lurk on other boards and i've read worst. it feels like you have us under strict patrol.
I am shocked. The ModGods have never directly spoken to me. I'm having a hallelujah moment.
Thanks for answering the questions. Does this mean that you are the one that is reading our board?
There are several of us who are on the boards. You've probably seen a post from Knot Jen, Bump Liz and Bump Kaitlin from time to time. Please feel free to PM us with concerns. Even if we don't respond quickly, it doesn't mean we aren't taking your message into consideration. It's just difficult to get back to every member who contacts us. When you have a moderator it will also be easier to get in touch with us because there is one designated person per board - it's worked really well on The Nest and we have a faster response time when people are having issues on the site.
I don't understand why so much energy is spent on policing profanity. We're all adults. The f word is sometimes the most appropriate one. As long as you aren't calling someone names I'm not even sure that it's impolite.

I think it has to do with ad dollars. Happy boards have happy people on them, and happy people want to buy stuff. More importantly, companies want their happy ads next to happy content, and let's face it, people: What we're doing here is creating content.
This all is why I once again bring up the name thing. Knot Anni, if you're listening:
Assigning a length-of-time requirement to this board isn't going to work, because that's not what's unifying the people here. What's unifying the people here is their general approach to coping with the crap storm that is IF -- more specifically, their sense of humor about it. It's no better or worse than coping via the supportive atmosphere that's over on TTTC. (In fact, I post there, too, when I'm in the mood, and I think many of us do.)
Strong names will make it clear to newbies (new to the Bump or new to the board, whatever), where they should go to get what they need. This will mean nobody gets their feelings hurt, which will keep everybody happy. Which in turn will keep the advertisers happy. Etc.
My two cents.
