Moms of 2...

One thing that "scares" me about having two kids is the night time stuff... Like, with DS1 I could sleep during the day when he slept, but when HDC2 comes I won't be able to sleep during the day because DS1 will be up.

How does this work? How do you manage and not just pass out from exhaustion?!

Re: Moms of 2...

  • I got DD2 into a schedule where she would nap the same time DD1 did in the afternoon and I would try to take a nap then.  If that didn't work then I would take a nap when DH got home from work.
  • I just didn't sleep :( ?If I was REALLY lucky their aps would overlap for about 1/2 an hour and I could just sit with my eyes closed. ?That only lasted for about 5 weeks, though, and then it became exponentially easier :)

  • I got them to nap at the same time very quickly so I could sneak in a nap myself.  I really wasnt nearly as exhausted as I had expected to be.
  • Eventually you will be able to coordinate nap time so that their naps at least overlap a little.
  • I sent #1 to daycare at least a couple days a week so I could have some down time.  I ran my errands on those days and rested in the afternoon before I picked him up, on the days he was home with me we went out and did something fun that he liked.  It worked out so great.  Later on they would be somewhat on the same schedule as far as afternoon nap went.  Sometimes I would just bring #1 in my bed with me to watch a show while I dozed a little, sometimes he'd doze off too.
  • I learned to make it on less sleep when #1 was born b/c he was such a terrible sleeper. Now, #2 sleeps well at night, so I pretty much sleep from 11PM-3AM, feeding, then about 3:30-6 when #1 wakes up.

  • It is just easier the second time. I really don't know why. I am ont getting a whole lot of sleep, but I just don't feel like I need it. They do nap for about 30 mintues at the same time, but that is nest time for me:) I also send DD to MDO three days a week so that could be it. Now an infant seems so very easy.

  • I can't believe i can answer "moms of 2" posts now!

So far, it hasn't been too bad b/c E sleeps pretty well at night.  If DD1 still took naps more than once in a blue moon, I'd definitely nap then, but for now I just try to at least rest as much as I can when she's doing something quiet.  If I let her watch an episode of "Dora," I lay next to her and try to doze a little...if she's playing in the playroom, I go lay on the couch in there and rest while she plays, etc.

this is what I feared and hoped... feared that it's true that I won't be getting much sleep, hoped: that is doesn't last too long. :) I'm happy to hear most of you say that you just didn't feel like you needed as much sleep...

LOL Cubby-- becoming a "mom of 2" happened pretty quick huh? Time goes so fast.

  • I also didn't get to sleep as much.   I already knew that co-sleeping worked for us and didn't really try to get N to sleep in his bed so we sleep better generally with Nathan plus I learned to sleep and BF which made me not really have to get up so much with N, I wasn't as tired.   Sometimes there naps overalpped sometimes not.  I just took what I could.
