Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I need some thoughts from new moms

I just had my 2nd dd last Sunday. I had a c-section. Dr orders are no heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

So my mom called last night and asked if I could babysit my friends lilttle girl (my mom usually watches her) so that she can work. She runs her own cleaning business and is short staffed (I work for her as well). Friends dd is only 2. Not very well behaved. Doesnt listen to  me at all. I said no that I couldnt for atleast 5 more weeks. She acted shocked! Was I wrong? I have my MIL coming in tomorrow to help with dd#1 since DH is back to work. How can I care for someone elses child if im asking for help with my own? This just struck me as an odd request from my mom of all people!

  • I think you're right for saying no.

That was a completely unreasonable request.  IDK how I'm going to deal with my own kid after my 2nd c/s, never mind someone else's poorly-behaved 2yo.  Hell, after my c/s, I could barely go for a 20 minute walk without being exhausted afterward.

  • That is not wrong of you at all.  Regardless if you had a c-section or not, no one should be asking you to babysit when you have a newborn.  Plus, since I had a c-section, I know how slow you have to move to do everything and there is no way you can chase after a 2 year old without the risk of hurting yourself.  I think it was rude for you to be put in that situation to begin with.
  • i'd have said no as well. not only are you recovering from major surgery, you're also adjusting to life at home with two kids. i think it was kind of insensitive for her to ask in the first place.
  • No way! That seems like an outrageous request! I could hardly take care of my own ONE child a week after my c/s.... much less another kid and someone else's kid.

I think you're totally right for saying no and your mom is ridiculous for even asking.

  • Im glad im not the only one who feels this way. The odd thing is she yelled at me the other day for picking up the infant seat with the baby in it saying it was too heavy for me! I dont know what goes on in her head sometime!
