Cord Blood Banking

Is anyone participating in this?  I just looked at the prices and while I know it is important, I just don;t think it is in our budget to do it, especially with twins.  Just curious on everyones opinion.

I did some research on this, and most doctors will actually tell you that the chances your child would ever need or even be able to use its banked cord blood are very, very slim. ?Even if your child developed a disease which could be treated with cord blood within the ten or so years the blood is "fresh", chances are the defect that led to the disease is in the cord blood, too, so your child would need a donation from someone else anyway. ?Far better to donate the cord blood. ?It's free, and if your child ever does by chance need its own cord blood, the chances are very good that it's still available.

I asked DH about it bc I had never heard of it. He is a Dr and he agrees with what PP said. He thinks it is a rip off marketing thing and the chances of you needing it are slim and also that if you do need it, you may very well be just delaying the inevidable of that same thing happening again. He is a very big proponent of letting nature take it's course, which I think sometimes is a little harsh and maybe once the baby comes he will change his mind but who knows.

We banked my daughter's cord blood and we will bank this baby's cord blood too.  We did research and decided it was the right thing for us to do.  We also talked to various doctors and they all recommended it.
