We found out less than a week ago that we're having twins. My first appointment was around 5w and they gave us the whole rundown of appointments for one baby. Now with two I have no idea what to expect. My work is really flexible and won't make you take time off to go to drs appointments, but I feel like I'm taking advantage because I've had some trouble and needed some extra appointments. So this post is for two questions 1) how many extra appointments did you have with a multiple pregnancy and 2) when did you tell work? Thanks!!
Re: Work & Drs Appointments
i told my manger at 5w when they said it was twins- mostly b/c i'm an open book and if i had m/c i would have told him, too... and also b/c i was so freaked out it was twins- and he himself had twins last year- so i wanted him to know b/c i knew he'd understand what i was going through re: emotinos, doc appts, etc.
As far as twins vs. singleton - my OB saw me once a month until 27w... now i'm every 2 weeks. My peri has also been seeing me once a month and doesn't start weekly until 36w. This will vary depending on your health, how the pg is going ,etc. I have had a few extra visits in there b/c of other issues... including one to the hospital to get IV fluids b/c of a stomach bug - so you just never know.
so- comparing to my singleton pg - i had one extra appt a month up until 27w... since i'm seeing a peri and an OB (which you should also be doing).
just try to scheduled your appts the first thing in the morning- that is what i do (i try to get the 8:30 appt) so not only is there no wait- but also so i''m not out of work for long.
also, expect to be taken out of work earlier -esp if you work on your feet.
if you haven't already - get this book - great resource for a twin pg.

congrats!
Like Goldie I have had at least 2 scheduled appt a month b/c of a peri and an OB. I have had a few unscheduled appts b/c I felt that there was a problem including 2 trips to L &D (1 for falling on ice and 1 for contractions way too early). I will be starting my every week appts at 30 weeks.
Congrats on twins! Welcome to this board
It will totally depend on how your pregnancy is going. I was going to the OB once a month and for a level II u/s once a month until 28w when my Baby B fell way behind in growth due to a poor cord insertion. Now I am going in for a weekly level II u/s, seeing my OB every 2 weeks (this is normal) and am starting non-stress tests this week...... so some weeks I have 2-3 appts.
I am still working full time and have tried to be as open as possible. I printed out my appt schedule for my manager and client and have made up hours missed by working later or earlier on days without appts.
Also, I told my manager at 8w since we were in contract negotiations and then told everyone else at 14w. Good luck!!
