?'s about boosting milk supply

I am?breast-feeding?and pumping but I'm starting to get concerned with my supply. What are some things I can do? Is there anything I can take without having to talk to my Dr.? Please help!! I really don't want to switch to formula. I don't think we can afford it!

Re: ?'s about boosting milk supply

  • The website kellymom.com has some great info. I'd definitely check it out.

I was never a pumping mom, but the things I know you can do to boost supply are: lots of skin to skin, nurse in (just nurse non-stop for about 2 days - or nurse and pump),  and stay very hydrated. Even being slightly dehydrated can really make your supply tank.

    Good luck!
  • I tried using Fungi Greek and Blessed Thistle and they helped a bit.  I went to my doctor and he gave me an Rx for Domperidone and it has really helped.

Increasing my water intake also helped a TON!

  • PS your girls are adorable!
  • There are three things that really helped me. 1) taking Mother's Love Make More Milk supplements with fenugreek and blessed thistle. 2) Drinking a dark beer each night or a couple ounces at a time throughout the day 3) tandem nursing.

I've  noticed a big increase since I started all of the above, especially the tandem nursing (I was having trouble with it before now).  That said, I do still have days when I pump a ton and days when I get only a bit. You may just be going through a growth spurt or dry couple of days until your body can catch up, so try not to stress too much about it (I know, easier said than done!)

  • Take 3 fenugreek capsules and 2 Blessed thistle capsules 3x a day. Drink tons of water, and eat tons of good milk making calories. Don't exercise a lot or you'll burn off the calories. Bfing will burn calories for you. don't take antihistamines or certain bc pills or it will kill your supply. kellymom.com is a good resource. the fenugreek and blessed thistle was great for me. It does take a week to kick in. Your supply won't be fully in for about 8 weeks or so...so don't get discouraged!
