cervical scar tissue

I have scar tissue on my cervix due to a LEEP. I'm being induced tomorrow night and my OB recommends getting an epidural just for the initial part where he will have to manually break the scar tissue and try to begin opening the cervix. ?Has anyone had this done and was it really necessary to have that much pain control?
