2nd Trimester

Graco Sarah/Lauren

How many of you have/are planning to buy one of these models?  DH and I registered for the Sarah in hickory at Target.  When my dad saw the price and then one of the bad reviews (1 out of 2 was bad) he started going on about how we should look for a used crib that was originally more expensive and nicer quality.  I tried explaining that it isn't a good idea to buy used cribs and was then mocked by him (apparently the reasons I cited weren't valid) insisting that it's fine to buy used if we inspect it first. Now I'm confused, wondering if it is a good choice after all, feeling stupid for picking out a "cheap" crib, etc, not to mention upset about being made fun of by someone I love.  I'm also scared that the crib may turn out to have problems after all and then he'll be able to say "I told you so."  Also, what is your opinion on buying used cribs, do you think he's right?

Re: Graco Sarah/Lauren

  • I just bought the latest Baby Bargains and both the Graco Sarah and Lauren were their choice for a less expensive crib. I'd go with your choice.

  • My DH used to work at a Once Upon a Child (child consignment store) while in college.  He's pretty picky about our crib choice (he only approves those made by Million Dollar Baby-no recalls-)...however he said they rarely bought many cribs back for consignment due to recalls.  You're best bet is to go by the baby bargins or look into to see if any of the models you're interested in have had any recalls. Its not necessarily a cost thing, more like quality I think. IMO a higher quality used crib would be fine, but again its your baby and you should be happy with your choice and not settle cuz somone made you feel bad.  Sorry if I wasn't much help, and it certainly wasn't nice for your dad to get so picky about it.  As long as you do the leg work I'd disregard any insult to your crib of choice.  GL :)
  • There is ALWAYS goingto be something someone doesn't like about every single product out there. If you like it and it's safe, why not gofor it.
  • We bought the graco lauren and its an OK crib.  Baby bargains gave it good reviews but the issues I have with it is the drop rail is a little hard to operate.  Otherwise its a good crib.
