Transporting twins from room to room

No one ever mentioned how challenging it can be to get two newborns (usually screaming and hungry) from one room to the other.  When they wake up and it's time to nurse on the couch it is such a process.  How do you guys do it?  I have been putting on in the bouncy seat while I go get the other one since they have no head control and can't easily get them both into my arms at the same time.  Am I missing some easy trick you guys know about?

  • Iwas just reading about this in the book Twin Sense- she said in the beginning you really need someone to help you with the logistics of transporting them & feeding them....she had very detailed instructions for a method to get them both on your lap, etc, in there too, do you happen to have that book?

  • I have been worrying about this for a while now. I don't know how I am going to do it!  I will be interested to read what others have to say. I know one twin mom who carries one baby in a sling and one in the carseat when she has to go up and down the stairs.

  • I carried them both at the same time, but I had the advantage of my mother who had twins showing me how to do it, I'd pick up one, put her in my left arm, and then scoop the other one with my right arm.
  • One of the reasons I loved swaddling was that it made them so much easier to move around. If you get a really good swaddle on them, then pick them up to go feed like cands suggested, they are far less floppy.

Just be careful and practice - especially if you have someone around as a spotter. It is easier to just let them get the baby, but if you work on learning while you have a backup catcher, you'll get the hang of it sooner.
  • I almost always carry them one at a time--it's easier and safer when they are little and floppy-necked. Sure does take longer though, and it is stressful when they are both hungry and screaming!

  • it is probably safest to carry them one at as time. ?That being said, somebody will probably call DYFS on me one of these days because, like pps, i pick one up, put him in my left arm in a traditional hold, then I scoop up the other one in my right arm by running my right arm between his legs, under his back and up behind the head - then he kind of rolls into my body. ?Of course, this took a lot of practice and is easier as they get bigger. ?I love pp's idea of a "spotter" when you are first learning. ?Good luck!
  • Someone gave us a bassinet on wheels, it was THE BEST thing we got that we never knew we would need.  We only used it for about 3 months but it was a life saver!

  • You should NEVER carry more than one baby at a time.  If you had both of them and were to trip and fall, the only thing to break your fall would be your babies.  If you only had one, you would at least be able to put your arm out.

With my trio I would jog them from their bedroom to the living room, one at a time, and do just what you said - one in a swing, one in a seat, bring the third in and start feeding, then rotate them as I went through the feedings.  I don't think there's any "easy" way to transport multiples ever, LOL!
