Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DD has little/no appetite for solids...

I was having this problem when she was younger but thought by now (9 months) she would be eating more solids. I'm lucky if she eats one 4 oz jar total (per day). She never finishes a jar at one sitting. It's like the kid is living exclusively on breastmilk.

Her next pedi appt isn't until she is 10 months old(mid may). At her last appt her weight was 19lbs 12 oz (the 75-90th percentile).

Anyone else have a bad eater?

  • Have you tried finger foods yet? My DD who was mildly interested in purees loves, loves, loves finger foods.

  • My DD is a bit younger than  yours (a little over 7 months) so we have only been trying solids for a bit over a month but with little luck.  I can definitely see myself in your position at the rate we are going, so I am interested in what others say. I really didn't think it would be this hard to get her to eat solids because she seemed so ready.  Most days it is only breast milk for her.
  • My boys are the same exact way. They also have absolutely no interest in finger foods. We have tried puffs a few times and they just stare at them or choke on them if I offer them.

  • DS wasn't a big eater when we started and until almost 10 months we were lucky if he was eating 3 oz in a sitting. ?In fact, at the 10 month mark, he stopped eating solids for a few days which ended up being the result of wanting to feed himself. ?Once we figured out what the problem was, and started finding more creative (and ?nutritious) finger foods, he became very interested in food.

Honestly, until he was 9 months, the only finger foods he could handle were cheerios, cheese and pear but he gradually got the hang of everything from toast to meatballs to avocado. ?We just kept offering them!
