Okay, I know this will totally sound like I'm a stalker but I love the siggy pics of your DD!  I remember her because she's so cute and makes me want a DD too!

Re: LyndsayQ

  • Awwwwww, thanks!!!  She gets cuter by the second, IMO.  :)  How is your LO?  They're about the same age, right?

  • DS is only about a week older from what I see on the tickers!  They are pretty close!  We started cereal last week and loves it, I can't wait to start him on other foods!

  • We attempted cereal right at 5 months and she was not interested.  We tried it every week thereafter, but just this past weekend she started to get really interested.  And we determined she LOVES sweet potatoes!!!  First we tried bananas and applesauce, she didn't seem to enjoy either; but, the sweet potatoes were like baby crack!

I'm on wholesomebabyfood.com right now trying to determine how much she should be eating.  Basically it's saying until she's done!  YIKES!  DD was not showing any signs of being done after a few tablespoons of cereal/sweet potatoes.  Hmmmmm...

How much is your LO eating?  As soon as they master cereal I think you can add other foods; wholesomebabyfood.com is a very helpful site IMO.

  • Lol, that is so cute, she must really love the potatoes!  Thanks for the website info, I always worry if DS is eating too much/too little.

He was eating right at 32 oz of BM a day, except during what we figured were growth spurts.  He would jump to 40 oz for a couple of days!  But since we started cereal, it is like he is getting more hungry!  He eats all of the cereal (just a TB mixed with BM for now) and then acts like he wants more also.  We have just been finishing him off with some milk (because I didn't know when to up his food) but he has been eating 40 oz!  It has lasted longer than a week so I guess he's just ready to eat more solids!

So should I start on sweet potatoes first? Wink

  • Babycenter.com also has some great resources on starting solids; I'm on there now too.

I haven't been measuring DD's cereal/baby food, just eyeballing it.  But she's definitely eating more than 1 tbsp!  ;)  But she's taking the same amount of BM, to my knowledge; she mainly nurses except for the 12 oz in bottles during the day.  I guess she takes @ 28-32 oz/24 hours.

I hear most babies love sweet potatoes!  And I thought she would love the bananas (smashed from real bananas, not baby food), but I guess not.  Two other nesties recommended applesauce, but she was indifferent to it as well.  I'll probably try a new food on Sunday (after she finishes the sweet potatoes); maybe the squash or something green...that should be interesting.  :)

  • I'll definitely try sweet potatoes first!  I would think most babies would love bananas and applesauce too!  I did read it can take 20 tries before they decided they like a food!  But hey, maybe your DD is a vegetable girl!!

I guess you are making your own food too?  That is what I am planning on doing!  I hear zucchini is a good squash to try!

Thanks for the other website!  I might page you sometime to ask more questions about baby food if that is okay!  :)

  • I do plan to make DD's baby food, but I bought Gerber for the first tries b/c I didn't want to make a large batch and then her be allergic to something.

You're welcome to page me anytime, but I have to tell ya, I'm rarely on here these days.  :(  And if I am on here, it's mianly in the evening hours after 8 pm EST.  But you can pm me or you're welcome to email me at lquinn_osu at hotmail dot com.  Maybe we can share secrets b/c I'm no expert on baby food; I'm still learning myself.

  • Sounds great!!  You can email me too if you want:  Very long, sorry!

    Have a good night!
