what's better cool mist humidifer or warm mist vaporizer?

my DS has had a consistent cough for two weeks and I can hear phlegm rattle in his chest but he can't seem to cough it up though I have seen some phelgm in his poopy diapers

cool mist.  less chance of getting burned, less chance of getting mildewy...

cool mist is better according to our pedi. the warm mist can make the room to stuffy and cause more labored breathing. Plus the warm mist is more germy and mildewy.  the cool mist humidifier we have works wonders in dd's room. we use it almost every night.

i had a warm mist one in my bedroom and all of a sudden one night i woke up and there was a weird smell in the room. the next morning it was horrible. i had to call the fire dept out to make sure that it wasn't an outlet. they took apart my humidifier and the whole inside had melted. it took days of windows open to get the smell out. horrible.

Our pedi said the same thing.  We use our all the time in DS's room.

ok thanks dumb question in the Vicks Cool Mist Humidifer can I put Vicks at all?

I through out the instructions like an idiot!

Now I feel like a bad mom -- I have prolonged his cough
