Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Sick Baby/Daycare... argh

So, my DH was a SAHD from November until this Monday, when he started his new job.  After 4 days in daycare, DS has a fever and runny nose, so I am staying home with him this morning until my ILs, who happen to be in town, can come and watch him.

He's acting normal, a little fussier than usual, and the fever is super low-grade, but the main reason I kept him home was sleep.  He can't sleep at daycare, he got spoiled by napping in his room, dark and quiet with white noise.  I know he won't get the sleep that will make him better at daycare.

Any idea how to get him to nap at a daycare center?  And I want my baby to be better!

Re: Sick Baby/Daycare... argh

  • When I worked in daycare one of the Moms brought in a "crib tent" to put over the crib and make it darker. Our director wouldn't allow it but maybe it would work for you. Overall, in my experience, the sleeping situation in most daycares is very unfair for the babies. The lights are on, kids are yelling... none of my babies did well.?

  • Thats too bad...

My sis and mom run a home daycare togther...they put the napping babies in a separate room that is dark and quiet...

I hope you DS feels better soon :(

  • DD is the opposite of pp, she sleeps for 2 hours in the morning and 1-2 hours in the afternoon at home, but only about 30 minutes for each at daycare. We've tried everything and since they can't make it dim and quiet like we do at home, it's hard. We never kept things silent at home but I think they tune out familiar sounds. We have started keeping her room bright during naps to try and help. She's been at daycare since Jan and we are still struggling. I did try loveys and the glow worm that plays music to try and help.
