I've seen a couple posts about this and I am NOT flaming, I am just clueless b/c I'm Jewish. ?I don't remember my friends getting actual gifts for Easter when we were growing up. ?I just remember being jealous of all the yummy candy they got.?
Personally, I hate missing out on an opportunity to give (and get!) gifts! LOL
Re: When did Easter become a gift-giving holiday?
I have no idea.
It never was, and still isn't at our house. It's a religious holiday with a small basket of candy.
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
No idea. Same with Valentine's Day.
We are Catholic, and we just got one big basket of candy for all three kids. It is primarily a religious holiday.
Yeah - candy is good enough for me!! I was raised Catholic (but don't practice now) and we only ever got candy and eggs. I've seen some elaborate baskets out there. I've seen a lot of posts about what people are putting in baskets, but I don't know anyone that does a "big" gift.
Since my kids are little, I'm putting in stickers and puzzles to supplement. But I was just thinking, "oops, I didnt get DH a choc bunny!"
No clue. No one gives gifts around here that we know.
The kids get easter baskets and I got one for DH as a joke because he would just steal the kid's candy if I didn't
We're roman catholic and it's a religious holiday in our house. We do hide eggs and the boys get small baskets of treats (books, cars and a little bit of candy).
Me and MH do nothing for each other.

My dad's side of the family (not Jewish) did Easter HUGE-- we got TONS of gifts.
MH's family always did it big, too-- he got his first bike in an easter "basket"
I'm all about gifts, so it works for me ?
Ditto?

Too busy to update the pics for now ...
Not sure. ?We always got baskets as children mostly the premade ones from Wal-Mart : ) ?My kids will receive gifts and candy in their basket but I don't think we went over board. ? In addition, we also celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. ?As He is the reason for the season. ?
When I was growing up we had two egg hunts, one at our house in the morning and one at my grandma's after church before Easter dinner. In both we would find eggs, some colored real eggs and some plastic eggs with candy and then we would get 1-2 small gifts.
My kids only have one egg hunt, but we do some colored and some plastic eggs and then a couple of small gifts. For example, Lila is getting a bubble toy and a $3 doodle. I don't like to give my kids a ton of candy so I'd rather get a few small things for them and then just a little candy.
Ian doesn't like to hunt eggs anymore so I just put his gifts and some candy in a basket for him.
We do gifts, but only because we want to.
I didn't get them as a kid, and I suspect MH didn't either, but his parents still send down gifts probably just because they like to spoil their grandchildren.
We've stopped buying things for ourselves and each other just randomly, so Easter is a good excuse for me to buy something that MH has been eyeing and vice versa.
Oh, and we do candy too. YUM!
