What was your experience with it?
I
have about hit my breaking point. I have thrown up since the beginning of week 6 and it is now getting worse. I threw up 7 times two days ago and am already on 4 today with no signs of stopping. I called my OB and am waiting for her to call me back. I am thinking of pleading for Zofran, but wanted to get your experiences first.
Thanks.
Re: XP: Who's on or was on Zofran?
I am on Promethazine. I hit the point where you are last week. I could keep nothing in.
Sadly, this helps with the afternoon/night sickness. But mornings are still really tough.
I go back tomorrow, and am going to chat about what other options I have. I am having a hard time being a productive person most of the time!
I loved it at first. Word of advice though - you will not poop on Zofran. At all. I drank over 100oz of water a day, to the point that I was almost sick from it. Ate nothing but salad, broccoli, fiber bars, anything that had lots of fiber. Added fiber powder to drinks, took the max dose of colace, etc. I tried it all. I actually stopped taking it because the throwing up was better than the cramps and pain from not having a BM.
I know plenty of people have been able to take it and drink extra water and take colace and be perfectly fine. But listen when they say to eat the fiber and drink the water. It really will constipate you.
I'm on the generic. I was on the name brand with my first pregnancy.
Its been a Godsend. My doctor's rule is if you're throwing up 4 or more times a day, the prescribe something because of the risk of dehydration. I usually keep it by my bedside and take it when I wake up, then lay in bed for a bit. I still have a day here and there where it doesn't take it all away, but most days I feel 100 times better and am able to function as a normal person.

It was my saving grace after 3 straight weeks of throwing up. I was able to go to the bathroom, just not every day.
I am not sure about your insurance but mine would only cover 9 pills in a 30 day period because the drug is very expensive ($108/9 pills) so I had to try Phenargen (sp?) first. It knocked me out and I could not function so my doctor was able to override my insurance and get me 18 Zofran pills at a time.
I am almost into my 13th week and still dry heave occasionally but feel as if the end is near.
Good luck.
Why can't you use the generic? I had this problem with my first pregnancy because the generic wasn't out yet, but now I'm just on the generic and my insurance covers it. I get 30 pills for $10. It works the same.

I was throwing up 5-6 times a day - on Zofran (generic) I throw up about 2 or 3 times a day. They started me on the 4 mg every 8 hours...now I'm doing the 4 mg every 6 hours. I've been on the phone with them constantly - feel like a drug addict begging for a fix!!! I wish they would up me to 8 mg. Oh well...next weeek's battle. Good luck!
PS My DR also prescribed Reglan - but I checked it out online and wasn't thrilled with what I found. I'm not comfortable taking that.
I take it and find I function a lot better than I did with my first pregnancy. Get it if you need it. My doctor doesn't wait for you to be throwing up before prescribing it. I had him call in a prescription two weeks ago before I left for Mexico. The last thing I wanted was to be completely miserable on vacation. It helps a lot.
I had no idea it causes constipation until I read your XP on 2nd tri. That explains it for me. I've been taking Colace for three days and today it finally worked. It worked a little too well. It cleared everything out of my system.
