I have read the book but I am confused... on naps it says to give up after 1 hour. Does that mean start to finish(from when you first put them in the crib) or when you start the 15 minute intervals. (first 5, then 10, then 15minutes)
Also when you go in to comfort, what if they calm down but start to cry again when you walk away from the crib? Just let the next wait time start??
Re: Help!! Quick Ferber question...
Hmm, I thought the Ferber I read said to give up after 30 minutes for naps? But I took that to mean from the time you put DC down for the nap - 30 minutes total of trying. I don't know if I'm right or not. (I haven't done it, but I did read the book.)
?And yes, if DC starts crying as you're walking away, you just go and let them cry.?
baby #4 due March '17!
From the time you put DC down, is what we did. If DD calmed while I was there, but was crying as soon as I was not there, I still counted that as in the original hour. So, for example - if I put her down at 10:30 am, and she cried through every check, I'd get her up at 11:30. If she calmed only while I was by her side, I'd get her up at 11:30.
If she cried when I left, then calmed herself down to fussing, I'd start the clock over when she'd start up again. So, for example - I put her down at 10:30, she cried till 10:35, when I went in to check on her. She continued to cry until 10:42, then just started being fussy. At 11:10, she started crying again. At 11:15, I'd check on her, then at 11:25. My DD did this once or twice, but I only ever had to "start the clock over" once.
Thank you ladies! I must have an older book ( I got it from the library) because it says 1 hour. Maybe he has revised it since then to be 30 minutes? He is thankfully asleep now.(40 minutes after we started) WOW! That was really hard. Hopefully the rest of the day will go easier.
Mrs.tlcS...just so I understand. You start over after the first 15 minute interval? I thought it was 15 minutes from that point on. I really would like to make this as painless as possible for him. Is that what you did with your daughter? So it went like this...5,10,15, then 5,10,15 until an hour was up?Please excuse my stupidity...I am super sleep deprived. Thanks for you help!
