How did you find out whether it is covered by insurance or not? Did you just wait until yu saw the Dr. or did you call your insurance company?

I looked it up on my insurance company's website.  They consider it "medically necessary."

Your dr. should know, if he is familiar with your policy!  But you can always call too!:)

I have Aetna, it was pretty easy to find.  I try to avoid calling if possible, I've heard of people having problems with the company not knowing what they're talking about without procedure codes.

If you call your insurance company, call your OB office first and ask for all CPT codes associated with the NT screening.  Agree with pp that insurance companies don't really know what procedures are... unless they have the codes.

The procedure code for the ultrasound part is 76813.  It shouldn't cost more than $250 out of pocket if your insurance doesn't cover it.  :-)
