bullies at 12 mo ?????

Hi Ladies!  Is it just my twins or do other notice that their babies can be mean to each other?  Sophia is such a bully to Danielle!!!!  I don't get it.  She thinks it's funny too ....  the other day, she cornered Danielle in our kitchen, hopped on top of Danielle and started bouncing up and down and smiling with pleasure.  Poor Danielle was crying hysterically.  I know that Sophia is too little to know what she's doing is wrong and she gets a reaction when she does it.  Anyone else's twins / multiples beat up on each other?  Where do they learn it?  We don't hit each other or hit our kids.  I think we are good role models....what's the deal?

Re: bullies at 12 mo ?????

  • My boys are a bit younger but yeah, they just treat eachother like another toy, totally not aware that pulling hair, poking eyes and kicking in the face, hurts.

I think we'll see it more w/ our multiples b/c there are 2.  If it was just one, they'd have no one to interact w/.

I'm chalking it up to discovering and learning - in 6 mos, I'm not sure I'll be able to use that excuse :)

  • Mine are just about 8mo and Emma bullies Logan daily. If she isn't poking him, she's stealing his toys or the binkeys out of his mouth. Even if she has one, she needs his too!
  • Oh yeah, they definetly hit and kick and bite and pull hair.  It's completely and totally normal.  But that doesn't mean  you have to let them do it.  Around 12 months we had a big biting problem, and we started mini-timeouts, someone would bite their sister, we would grab the biter, tell her "no biting" and sit her down a few feet away, they would usually cry, and we let them.  The biting has really really dropped off.  We do the same routine for hiting and kicking and pulling hair, but those things haven't completely gone away yet.

  • yeah, mine like to push each other over too. not one in particular, they all do. i think they see their siblings at toys rather than people. heh.

  • Mine beat on each other constantly. They pull hair, slap and scratch. I have a home daycare and the twins also gang up the other kids to take their toys away. I spend all day being the referee. Just when you think you've done everything to raise nice children, they temporarily turn in to 'those kids'.
