Just going to get this off my chest...flame away...
- Please don't slap 2 names together that you like and think it "sounds great." I like Andrew, MH likes Stephen...heck, let's name him Standrew!!
- Shoving a "y" or a random letter in your childs name does not make it unique. It makes it weird.
- Do you really want your baby to be beat up in the playground because his/her name is "ZORAN"...(Cat Cora from Iron Chef named her 5 year old this!!)
There should be a running list of insane baby names on this board...It entertains me daily!
Re: Crazy Baby Names
Hahahahahaha....I seriously just laughed out loud! I am normally just a lurker around these parts, but I had to comment and say that is the funniest name I think I've ever seen...but maybe you should have kept it to yourself...don't want to give anyone any awful ideas
What's wrong with that? It could be nn'd Stan or Drew... lol
MH and I were trying to think of every combination possible...Standrew was the best
- Andphen
- Andren
- Stephrew
LOL. Every now and then the blending names thing works but not usually.

I'm just going to add to the insanity with a few gems...
Chef Jamie Oliver's kids names (mind you, his wife's name is JOOLES):
- Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, Petal Blossom Rainbow
Alyson hannigan:
- Satyana!??!?!?! Please let this be a family name
Richard Gere:
- HOMER...HOMER!! oh man, the jokes this kid will have.
LOL. When my SIL told a very rowdy group of family friends the name she picked for her DS the response was, "Ciaran?? That's Irish for "kick my a$$ on the playground".
FWIW I like the name Ciaran.
I could not agree more. This "Y" trend is truly awful. Although, I really hate all misspellings. Why do people think the way to come up with a unique name is to misspell an existing name??? That does not equal unique. It equals parents who cannot spell.
I absolutely do not understand this trend to combine names. I have never heard of this in real life, but I see it on here all the time. "My grandmothers' were Clara and Elizabeth, so we're going to combine them into this great name: Elizara!" Unless the names being combined are something like Mary and Anne and you combine them to get Mary Anne, or something else at least remotely normal, it's a BAD idea. See my above comment re: names that advertise "my parents can't spell."
And while we're listing pet peeves, I also really don't understand people who say, "Well, if you're going to call her Ellie, why name her Elizabeth? Just name her what you're going to call her." Um, NO. There's a reason that nicknames are also known as pet names. They are frequently only appropriate when the child is a child. But that child is going to grow up.
And people who claim it's silly to think about how a child's name will look on a resume some day are sadly short sighted. People WILL judge your child based on his or her name, whether you like it or not and whether or not you think that's the way it should be. It is your job as a parent to make sure that the first impression of your child's name is positive, or at least neutral.
Whew! Sorry to add my own rant there :-)
Hey - the crazy baby names are what make this board fun! ;-) but seriously - I cracked up at your first point about slapping two names together. Totally true!?
Although, I must say, I know a Zoran and his family is Croatian. ?The name is not as uncommon in those communities - and as an adult, it's pretty cool. I do feel sorry for him as a kid though...makes me think of Zorro. ;-) ?
What drives me nuts are nns for names that aren't originally what the nns are for.
Lily and Ellie for Elizabeth? Please.
I don't see how these are any different from Libby, which is a more standard nickname for Elizabeth.
