3rd Trimester

Distance between families?

Anyone else live in a different state than your families and in laws? My parents are in Minnesota and DH's in Iowa and we live in Arizona. I am giving birth here of course, but I am a little sad that only my mom will be down right away for the birth.

Anyone in the same boat?

  • same thing,  my mom is coming

my entire family is in Ohio

and DH's live in the Virgin Islands

I am a lil sad, but we have lots of friends here

  • My family is originally from North Carolina but we ( mom, dad, brother and sisters) moved to Wisconsin. So my close family will be here but my extended wont be, which stinks because I am close to my aunts and cousin! At least your mom will be here, that's nice!
  • Same thing here. My whole family is in TX. My Mom plans to be here for the birth (or shortly thereafter). My sister and her hubby want to come sometime this summer and my other sister will be going to college out here next fall, so she'll meet the baby then.

My Dad and Mom will probably come again sometime this summer and make a vacation out of it.

It is sad though, since none of my friends will meet the baby until I take her to Texas in August. I am bummed, since they were all there when I gave birth to my first daughter and they have all been "Aunties" to her. I feel like this one won't ever have that bond that my first daughter has with my family and friends. We used to go to dinner ever week at my parents and they would babysit her too, so they got very close in the last 4 years.

My husbands family is all spread out, so I doubt we will see them anytime soon. Maybe end of summer or this fall.

  • I live 3-4 hrs away from my parents and my IL. So its not that big of a distance. Until you start in on my aunts. :) Thats what email and snail mail is for!
  • Yep.

We live in AK and both sets of our parents live in WA.

None of our parents will be here for the birth, unless I go all the way to my induction date - then it is possible that my mom will be here - but the rest of our families won't meet our LO until we go down there to visit in August.

  • We live in Nashville, and both our families live in South Florida.  My parents are coming up here on my due date, and DH's parents and my cousins (who are also DS's godparents) are coming up on June 6th, when their kids get out of school.  I'm glad they'll be here to meet DS when he is so young, but I'm actually hoping that he'll come early so that we can spend some time bonding with him before all those people are in our house!

I live in California. My brother lives 30 min away, but 5 from the hospital. My aunt, uncle cousins live an hour away, but my folks live in DC, FIL and wife life in Illinois, MIL and hubby live in Florida.

?It'll be me and DH for the birth, and DD and my bro??shortly after and friends only until a week or so after. (My folks at 1 week, his mom at about a month and his dad at a month and a week.)

  • My mom is only 2 hours away, but DH's whole family is over 6 hours away in Georgia, my sister is 9 hours away in Florida and my dad lives clear across the country in California. (and we are in Alabama.)

It makes me sad that I have no idea when my dad will get to meet his first granchild. I hope sometime during her first year.

  • I was really worried about this also, but I found out monday that i am being induced on friday and right when i called everyon to tell me, my family and DH's family made plane tickets. This is one good reason to know when baby is coming.

  • At least you have a mom...sorry your sad.
  • My family is 8 hours away in Southern CA, and FIL is in Idaho and MIL is in North Carolina. My best friend is hopefully going to be here for the birth since my mom couldn't take enough time off to make sure she  wouldn't miss it. I'm kind of glad though that we wont have the entire family here all at once to welcome the baby. It's all going to be spread out over the summer which will be SOOOO much less stressful!

  • DH parents and my dad both live here in Anchorage. However depending on when DS comes my dad has a high chance of being out of town as he travels 3 out of 4 weeks every month for work all around the state. My mom on the other hand as well as my 2 younger sisters live in Canada and they will not be here until school gets out at the end of June. I really wish that my mom could be here sooner or when he is born, but it just isn't going to work out. She has made a few comments that it is going to be very hard for her to not just get on a plane and come up here when he is born, so it wouldn't surprise me if she was to do that, at least for a couple of days.

  • I'm an 8 hour plane ride away from my family Crying

We're only an hour and a 1/2 car ride from my MIL

  • I am in a different country then my family.  We are in Germany because of the Army.  My mom was going to come out here around the birth but we changed plans.  My husband won't be here either when I deliver.  So it will be me and my friends.  I am just grateful that I have a few amazing friends here that are willing to help me out so much.  My husband wanted me to go back to Omaha for the birth but I refused.  This is my home for now and I will not move for that long just to have family there for the birth.  I would have to wait forever for the passport and such to come back for the baby.
  • Wow. I almost posted the same ? last night. We live in RI. My family is in WA and his is in IL. We are going to IL at 36 weeks because of his brother's wedding and we're staying to have the baby.  It works out better for us because his mom was just diagnosed with cancer and is having surgery after the wedding and before the baby. The only bad thing about it all is I will have to go to the hospital cold turkey without a dr because no one will take me that late in the pregnancy. Good luck.
  • We do.  We live in Georgia.  My family lives in Michigan & Dh's families live in Uganda and Washington D.C.

  • Look on the bright side...Some of us with families who ARE close by are trying to plan ways to keep everyone from swarming the delivery room right after birth!!! You will have nice quality time for you and hubby to bond with the baby as a new family without all the interruptions :)
