I'm also going to post this on the High-Risk board but ladies here reply faster! I was wondering if any of you eat the sugar-free jello pudding. The nutritionist I met with yesterday said I could have sugar-free lemonade and things like that as long as they were not made with Splenda. I really want something sweet so I was thinking about making the sugar-free jello pudding but wasn't sure if it was ok, it doesn't have Splenda in it! Also, if I had the pudding one that count for my bedtime snack or will I have to eat again later?
Sorry for the ignorance! I am new to this.
Re: GD Mamas
You can't have anything with Splenda? My mom has been diabetic for years and always gets stuff with Splenda. Is it just a GD thing?
**ETA**
Or is it just one of those 'artificial sweeteners are the devil' things?
She said I could have other artificial sweeteners but splenda was a no no. I think its just a GD thing though because she kept mentioning the placenta when talking about splenda. It was so confusing!
She better not have told me backwards! She has it all wrote out on my paper.. NO SPLENDA! lol I seen Hilda Cook.
ETA: She did say not to go crazy with the other sweeteners but I could use it in like Unsweet tea once a day. She told me I could get crystal light packages to add to waters once a day just make sure it was Aspartame and not Splenda.
just because it doesnt say splenda on the label doesn't mean there isn't splenda in it - check for "sucralose" as well.
I think sugar-free jello does have it though, unfortunately.
I am GD also but i can't have artificial sweeteners b/c they make me really sick. no Splenda/sucralose/aspartame for me!
yes me too!
I eat and drink stuff with Splenda all the time. I wasn't told to avoid it, but only consume artificial sweeteners in moderation.
I just ate sugar free jello after dinner. It was delicious
yeah.. she told me the sucralose word to but I couldn't think of it! poo. I really want pudding. Mine says it doesn't have anything but Aspartame but i'm too scared to eat it! I guess i'll just have to suck it up.
See this confuses me.. she told me I could have artificial sweeteners but avoid the splenda and my whole life I thought splenda was ok. I'm definitely calling her tomorrow!
Aspartame is OK - it's not splenda - aspartame is Equal.
yeah.. I know. Maybe I worded it wrong. lol
STOP. Just STOP.
Splenda *IS* ok. Aspertame is frowned upon. (Equal/Nutrisweet are not recommended).
"Sugar Free" PUDDING *HAS* carbs in it. Sugar free does not always mean SUGAR FREE. This is why you have to read your labels.
However, you CAN have as much Sugar Free JELLO as you want ... it's considered a free food.

ditto.
It is crazy how all nutritionist/drs are different! I was told not to count carbs, but to count calories because gd was short term. I wasn't told anything about artifical sweeteners, and to be honest my numbers are fine after I eat regular pudding, and regular jello. My snacks are 166 calories, so I can easily eat a hunts pudding pack and be perfectly fine.
I feel sorry for you ladies who are not allowed any sweets or pasta, rice and such. I would be going insane!
I totally agree!! Apsartame was part of tons of studies a while back showing that it isnt that great for you. Thats why Splenda came about because it is a healthier version of an artificial sweetner.
I was told to not just look at the grams of sugar, but to look at the total Carbs in foods.
Anyone with GD is supposed to be on a Type 2 diabetes diet! Sugar free jello/pudding is okay to eat.
Like ANYTHING its all about moderation!!
