eek.
i requested some work from home time (and in my job it's totally doable). they previously gave a co-worker a whopping 4 weeks to work from home 2 days/week. so i asked for 1 day a week indefinitely (8 weeks with the baby at home, then indefinitely with the baby at day care). and the HR director is pregnant so maybe she'll be more sympathetic this time.
what really pisses me and all the other women of childbearing age off is the fact that one of our colleagues was allowed to work from his home 3 states away 3 days a week for months because he couldn't sell his house. and he's an idiot.
anyone else trying to get some working from home time after baby?
Re: Working Moms: Just sent my post-maternity proposal...
I currently WFH one day a week. Since I plan on coming back only three days/week, I'll try to keep my WFH day (and hopefully be able to work four days/week). If I were coming back full time, I'd request two days for a while. Where I work, it's all up to your supervisor. Fortunately, mine is pretty flexible.
Good job getting your paperwork in. ...I need to do that this month.
I'm going to try... we'll see how it works out.
But I'm not requesting it until I'm off on maternity leave. I'm close with my boss, and my logic is that maybe he'll just MISS ME SOOO MUCH that he'll be dying to have me back in any way, shape, or form
Telecommuting would be lovely- especially since I work 25 miles away from home!
Good luck!
Try to act flexible. My DH is in the Army, and when he got transferred, I was terrified I'd have to leave my job. I KNEW I could totally do what I do from home, but it was a hard sell. They decided to "try it out" until they could find a replacement. Well, after a very short period of time, they realized it worked just fine and I get my work done just as well--if not better, because I have zero commuting time--as when I was in the office.
Now, almost 10 months later, they aren't even looking to replace me. It was easier for them to try something new and let me work from home than it would be to find, hire, and train a replacement. Try to think of ways it would benefit them as opposed to asking them to do you a favor. Good luck!
Good luck!
I work from home one day a week and love it!
I am curious what your proposal consisted of, do you have a template or where did you get the format? I have been wanting to do this but did not know where to start? My email is anson.kari@gmail.com if you have any suggestions.
Thanks! Kari
