High-Risk Pregnancy

Any placental abruption success stories?

This is what I have.

I know I should stay away from google, but I have found nothing but pregnancy losses. :(

I just need some glimmer of hope.

Re: Any placental abruption success stories?

  • I actually had/have one as well. It doesn't seem like there are many others with placental abruption. I am 26w3days now but it happened at 24w5days. It was marginal but the iniital bleeding was quite large. The bleeding has subsided on it's own for the time being. My doctor has me on modified bedrest indefinately becaues he says that is occur again at anytime. It is terrifying though isn't it? I received bexamethasone shots when I was in the hospital in case they were going to have to deliver. I do not know if you can feel your baby moving and shaking yet but they told me that is the best indicator that everything is going good if you are not actively bleeding. So far so good. I am just taking it easy and hoping I can make it to 36 weeks and everything is ok. Good luck with everything!
  • I had a SCH at the begining of my pregnancy. Light bleeding around 8 weeks - severe bleeding at 11 1/2 weeks. SCH was the diagnosis with partial placental abruption. I am now in my 30th week and doing pretty good. The SCH stopped and the placenta was able to reattach to the uterus. One thing that I was told I had to do was have complete pelvic rest and absolutely no orgasming. The big O causes the uterus to contract and would bring on bleeding.

Have faith, as I'm sure you do. It will all work out and I can say, I know the one thing that made this a make-it or break-it deal was the bed rest. 6 weeks was a long time sitting on my butt or lying in bed, but it was all worth it.

  • Still waiting to deliver, but I'm full-term.

I agree looking up the info on an abruption gave me nightmares for a few days. I never did it again.

I had a partial abruption in February, I was about 28.5 weeks. The bleed was also quite heavy and there was a lot of fluid. It came out of nowhere.

I was on hospital bed rest for three days, I also had the steroid shots at the hosptial just in case. After D/C I was on strict BR at home, I had some of my restrictions lifted about 3 weeks ago to modified, but I'm still not allowed to go shopping or really be up and about for a extended period of time.

My OB is very cautious. I've seen him weekly since and have bi-weekly NST's at the hospital.  No further bleeding, I was told by both my OB and the specialist that they can heal over and to stay positive.

I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow, the baby is doing excellent, gaining weight at the normal rate and he is quite active.

Do what the Dr's tell you, rest, rest, and more rest. Even though I can do  a little more I still stay off my feet as much as I can. I'm not gonna say BR isn't difficult or frustrating, but it's the best thing we can do.

I haven't come across to many people who have had abruptions either, if you ever want to ask questions or talk off line feel free to PM me. I check in here at least once a day.

I hope the rest of your pregnancy is non-eventful. Just take it one day, and one week at a time.

    Take care,

    Colleen

  • Hi there,

I had 3 abruptions with 2 resulting in live births.  One was delivered C-section at 37 weeks because of him being a transverse lay... which was a good thing because even though I told the docs something was wrong they didn't believe me and the abrution wasn't discovered until they opened me up.  The other was delivered VBAC at 32 weeks with no adverse affects to my son.

I, too, am guilty of googling entirely too much.  I always scare myself so I'm trying to stay away from too much research.  I trust my doctors and know they will let me know when I have to worry.

Good luck to you!  Anytime you want to chat, drop me a line.  It looks like we both have quite a ways to go yet =)

  • Thanks so much ladies. It's so good to hear some positive news.

I have a long time to go, and I'm sure I will PM you guys when I start to feel down.  :)

  • I didn't experience during my own pregnancy, but I wanted to let you know that I am a result of a placental abruption pregnancy that occurred 28 years ago! My mom had full placental abruption and I was born at around 32 weeks. Just thought I'd let you know a success story from many years ago, when they had much less medical intervention than they do now! Good luck!

I had my first abruption at 17w, recovered from it and then had another one in my 23rd week. I never fully abrupted and was able to stay pregnant until almost 30w. You might not consider it the normal success story, but I do :) My daughter is now 1 and doing really well. My full story is in my bio and you can find me on the preemie board if you have any questions :)

Similar experience here :)  I was born by emergency c/s at 34 weeks due to abruption and now am 25, healthy, pregnant and about to graduate medical school :)
