It irks me when people give up their pets so easily

I'll be the first to say that Major can be a PITA and a terrorist dog. But, I would never get rid of him.

Shelters are over crowded and there are too many homeless pets already, why add to the pile just because you're a little impatient these days?

Be proactive and train your furbaby.

I can't imagine ever giving up Zoe. We're trying very hard to prepare her for the baby, and she's had obedience training, etc. I just hope it goes as well as DH thinks it will. I'm cautiously optimistic. But short of her attacking the baby, I could never get rid of her.

AMEN! AMEN! I cringe whenever I see pets on CL, especially when there are pictures.

You have NO idea what kind of person is getting the pet from you.

I told FI that I wanted to live on a farm and rescue animals.

Yes.  When your DC irritates you are you just going to drop her off a hospital or other "safe haven" just because he/she was being a nightmare??  Don't think so.  And believe me, they will try your patience.

I agree, people were telling us we needed to get rid of our Dog before DD was born becasue he is pitbull/rottweiler so obviously he would be dangerous around the baby.   We definitely didn't do that and trained him so he was ready for her when she came home.

He is so loving and protective of her that it is adorable.  He comes to get us when she is crying sleeps under her crib and doesn't let strangers near her unless he thoroughly checks them out first.

I would have a million dogs if we had the room and space for them to all play! I LOVE dogs! I get so upset when I watch AP and they have to rescue all those poor animals... I think they should punish their owners who mistreated them the same way they did the animals...

We were able to bring our puppy dog from England with us! Flying conditions I cried... I miss him terribly!

I am right there with you.  It breaks my heart to think of all the homeless animals that are great animals.. that have just fallen into the hands of the wrong people.  Too bad we don't live close together.. we could start our own animal sanctuary!

I totally agree! I also do not get how they can abuse their animal!! I look at my little Bella and those brown eyes and think how could any one ever hurt an animal! They are so wonderful!

Can I see a pic of your dog? I have a pit/rot mix and i have never seen one like him. He is the sweetest dog we have ever seen and very protective and everyone has been telling us that we need to get rid of him also but there is no way that we are doing that. TIA!!!

We have a bulldog, and I like to check out the bulldog rescue pages because I like to fantasize about adopting a buddy for her (she looooves other dogs, especially her own breed). I get so freakin' mad when I see a bully up for adoption just because the "owners are expecting a baby". Not even that there is a baby in the house already, but just because there is going to be one. grrr. These poor dogs didn't do anything wrong!

I hear you.  I had to give up another cat before I moved due to aggression issues towards my older guy in the picture.  But not before I tried an animal behaviorist visiting the home, retraining, reintroductions, hormone spray, drugs, holistic therapy, you name it.  And then I searched around by word of mouth and found a new home for him.  You don't just give up.  And even though Max was terrible around children before DD arrived and I worried a bit given his age, you can see from the pic how wonderful he is with her.  Never scratched her once.  And we're already training our new dog for when the baby comes and I'm looking into some doggie daycare a couple days a week for the early days so she can get some stimulation too when we're too wiped to deal.  Just like having an existing child, you just need to prepare.

Well said!  Rocky can be a little beast too but he is our little beast and we are responsible for him.

Agree completely. And it really bothers me when people post on here that they are getting rid of their pets and do it in a non-chalant, "look at me, I'm so witty and funny" type of way.

My dog was a major pain after the baby was born, but it didn't mean I loved him any less and there was NO WAY I would have gotten rid of him.  He died in December and I am still completely heartbroken, I miss him so much!

I agree. We have 3 dogs... 2 that I took in as fosters through a group I volunteered with (along w/ their sister who got adopted out) & 1 of the brother's got adopted out, then returned by the family (who had 3 kids & 1 on the way & a bassett hound who picked on the little guy). Once he got returned though, I had trouble trying to find him a home while working & taking classes full time, so guess what- we decided to keep him! And we're so glad we did!

However, in SOME RARE cases of people finding their pets new homes I can have some sympathy & it depends on the situation IMO... like in that family's case (who returned the pup)... it was the best thing for the dog! Finding a pet a new home with responsible owners is one thing, but dumping it off on the side of the road, etc. or dropping it off at a shelter is entirely irresponsible- they have enough animals to try & find homes for.

I whole-heartedly, 100-million% agree.  I work with a woman who put her dog to sleep after they had their baby because he wasn't behaving.  I have NO respect for people like that.
