Maternity clothes??

I know this has been asked before, but I didn't feel like scrolling through a bunch of posts to find it again.  Ok, I am about to purchase a few items and I need some advice.  When you first buy your first set of maternity clothes, did the shirts fit okay?  I am 13 weeks tomorrow and I have a slight bump, but my pants are definitely not fitting in the waist, and some of my shirts are getting to small.  When you bought shirts was the stomach area weird looking, since there was really nothing to fill it out?  A  coworker of mine said it should be okay, as people are wearing those type of shirts anyway. I was going to get some fuller shirts and tee shirts with shirring on the sides.

I just felt confident, now I'm all confused again.  Help!!

Re: Maternity clothes??

  • I still haven't bought any maternity shirts, just pants and jeans. My regular shirts have been fitting just fine. I would suggest you hold off on the shirts until you get a little bigger. Maternity jeans and pants feel great though so stock up on those.

Maybe you should get some inexpensive non-maternity shirts with empire waists, while you're in-between? A friend gave me a bunch of her maternity clothes, and some of the shirts look fine and some look weird. I'd just try them on and see! Good luck.

  • Most of the people on here probably have not bought many maternity clothes yet. I think you're farther along then most of us. I would ask the 2nd Tri board.
  • What I did was get some tops that fit me comfortably now and some that offer more room for my belly to expand. And, to make sure I'm not blowing a fortune on the clothes this early, I shopped mainly sale items and thrift stores for deals. Pants I got some with the same concept as the tops and the belly pannel that folds down for now and lifts over the tummy later on. Right now, if you're going to buy maternity, make sure you're not spending too much money 'cause you never know how big (or not so big) you'll get later on. GL!

  • Thanks for the info ladies, that helped me make up my mind!

I think I will stick to mostly the pants, and just get a couple shirts in a size larger than I would normally wear.

  • I didn't get very big with my 1st 2 so I didn't really wear maternity shirts- I just bought regular babydoll tops and tops that were loose or flowey.  The maternity shirts made me look HUGE when I wasn't and I never filled out the top very well, either.
