Anyone else have a dislocated rib?

I've been having this burning pain in my upper back that wraps around to my ribcage.  I assumed it was a pulled muscle, but I had a dr appt last night, and my doctor says that it's actually a dislocated rib.  I guess it's pretty common with pg women because of all the relaxin and other hormones in our bodies.  I've been icing it, which helps, but I was wondering if anyone else has any other ideas?  My dr told me to go to the chiropractor, but I don't really want to...  I forgot to ask her if it will pop itself back in eventually - I'm hoping it will.    TIA for suggestions!

  • Trust me - go to the chiro. I had a dislocated rib twice and the chiro worked wonders.
  • I dislocated four ribs a few years ago in karate, and they pop out all the time on their own now. They will usually not go back in on thier own, and the longer they are out of place, the more the surrounding tissue gets inflamed (i.e. hurts). I would really go to the chiropractor, it's so simple to fix and feels so much better when it's back in place.

What did he do?  Did he pop it back in?  Maybe I will try it...

Yes, he will pop it back in and then you may get electrotherapy massage (either before to loosen teh muscle, or after to soothe it).

Thanks for the info and advice.  I guess I should stop being lazy and get my butt off to the chiro.  Thanks!

Essentially, yes. She did some massage on by back & sides to loosen up the muscles and then was able to get it back into place. I went twice a week for 2 weeks because she didn't want to "pop" it back in and cause a spasm. I love my chiro - I've been seeing her for 11 years!
