I'm going in for my 30 weeks appointment today and am thinking I may get an internal, but not sure. I checked my dr's sheet, but it doesn't have the 30 week details listed. I may be in for a surprise!
i asked at my last visit (32 weeks) when they start and the ob said every doc is different but, for him, around 38 weeks. he said i can refuse them but if i get to 40 weeks they will want to know what going on down there.
I think 30 weeks is pretty early. I got my first one last week at my 36 week appointment, and I thought that was early. I wouldn't think any earlier than 35-36 weeks unless there are complications.
You probably won't get your 1st internal until 36 or 37 weeks. The earliest they check is usually a month before your due date. Some doctors wait even longer.
I had my first one at 28 weeks and have had 2 more since then, but that was because of PTL. My doctor doesn't usually start doing them until the 36 week appointment.
i got my first internal at 35 weeks. they had to do a culture swab (like in a pap) and then he felt to see if i was dialated at all.. that was about 2 weeks ago that happened and they got me on a sneak attack for that one.. i thought i was only going in for a belly check! but they told me in the beginning that internals wont start until your on your weekly checkups.. if your not on them yet, you shouldnt be worried.. the internals are NOT as bad as pap's. i wish someone told me they werent that bad, period. i was a nervous wreck over getting them weekly if you suspect you might get one, just shower before and mentally prepare, but trust me, if it was anything like mine it was quick and painless..!
