MONDAY- Good morning, I hope you all are feeling well! Welcome to all our new girls!! Congratulations on your BFP's! Please feel free to share your symptoms!!

QOTD - What do you think are the pros/cons of a November baby? (thanks FLVintageBride)

Me (Holly) - Cons - being pregnant in the summer again (kinda hard to avoid) Pros - baby will have a birthday at a cooler time of year so we can do outside birthdays, and we have lots of family members with birthdays close to our due date, so apparently it is a good month to be born!!

  • The only downside to a November baby for me is the possibility of having the baby on DH's birthday (Nov. 28th) or on a date later in the month that in the future Thanksgiving could fall on.
  • the only con to me is the proximity to thanksgiving and my due date. i cook thanksgiving dinner, so I might not get to this year.
  • I was born Nov. 28 and have had no complaints. Even though my B Day falls on Thanksgiving sometimes, I don't mind. I think my child will like November as well. On the flip side, my mom didn't like being pg in the summer so I will probably not enjoy that either.
  • Morning Holly - and fellow Ninjas!

I like that I will be off in time to heal a little bit and be in a nice groove (hopefully) before Christmas. Family members will all have holidays around that time, and it's my favourite time of year. Plus, I make a lot of Christmas gifts by hand, so I am excited (and still delusional about the notion) that I will be able to work on stuff while the baby sleeps (HA!).

Also, in Canada we get a year off so next summer I will still be on Mat Leave and get to really enjoy the outside time b/c baby will be a little older, and also slip into an open daycare spot when the older kids go back to school (if I can bring myself to go back to work).

  • My DS was born October 5th...my EDD for this baby is November 4th, I had no problems with DS, so I don't anticipate any problems with this baby either being only a month different!  The only thing that we, DH and I, both agreed upon was that we didn't want the baby born on Halloween, but if it decides to come then, we will celebrate with our little pumpkin!

  • I'm so jealous of the 1 year maternity leave!

Con: Being 6 months pregnant in the August heat.

Pro: I won't have to deal with ice and snow while pregnant. No traveling for the holidays this year, family will be coming to us. My EDD is my mom's bday, she loves that her gift is going to be her first grandchild. My birthday is in December so I think Nov will be a great month for a birthday!

  • Good Morning!

Pros: So many members of my family are born the first week of November its very funny actually. Not having to wait to celebrate Baby's first Christmas.

    Cons: pregnancy during the summer.

  • QOTD - What do you think are the pros/cons of a November baby? (thanks FLVintageBride)
I think that any month would be great to give birth....however the only month that would concern me is January, just because I would be nervous getting to the hospital because we have some nasty winters around here
  • Pro - Baby will be around for the holidays AND I will be on mat leave!

Con - I will be on mat leave through the holidays = less money

Looks like I'll be making homemade gifts with my extra time on leave! Maybe...

  • Pro: Definately the outside birthday parties, Thanksgiving is close, Christmas is far enough away, lol. Nice weather, My grammas b-day was in November

    Cons: Absolutely None!!

  • our family has a lot of birthdays between Oct and Jan... so this is a pro and a con. it'll be fun to share the birthday season, but birthday celebrations do tend to get lumped together. But we're all 25-32, it'll be different with a baby...
  • I think it's a great time. Not too mention...I may be able to time my maternity leave just right and get all the major holidays off at work! It will be nice because family will also be able to get time off easier to come and see the baby.

  • QOTD - What do you think are the pros/cons of a November baby?

I am just excited to be expecting but the pros and cons that come to mind are...

    Pros

Hopefully not too big and uncomfortable the bulk of the summer
A new baby for the Holidays
I will get time off work through Thanksgiving and Christmas

    Cons

You will have a new baby for the holidays along with all the packages
Chance of having the baby on Thanksgiving and missing the family gather
And as my grandpa says "It's hunting season"

  • i don't see any cons, we tried for 9 months for this baby so i would've been happy no matter when our child was due.

  • Like a pp said - any month is fine!

However, if I had to pick -

Pros - A birthday during the school year, and I'm actually looking forward to being pregnant during the summer. Is that weird?

Cons - November in Minnesota can suck. Not too many outdoor birthdays for this munchkin.

That's really all I can think of.

  • Hmmm,

Pros:  Having a newborn around for the Christmas holidays.
Cons:  Buying winter maternity clothes that will only be worn for a month.  Spending maternity leave trapped in a house.  I would have loved to work off the PP pounds by walking/hiking outdoors in nice weather with the little one.

  • I am so excited, and totally happy about a November baby! I'm due in early November, so we should have the baby in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas, which I think will be really special.

The only thing I'm slightly less happy about is most of my maternity leave will be during freezing cold weather. I really want to venture outside a lot with the baby, but I'm afraid I'll just stay in due to cold. I'm also not sure how to manage walking the dog on cold mornings, with the baby... hmm....

  • I am looking forward to NOT going to MIL's house this year for Thanksgiving...in fact I might use the new baby as an excuse to NOT go there for Christmas too.

    Thanks little nugget.

  • Because I'm a teacher, if baby decided to arrive on time or even a little late (I'm okay with that), I'll get about 8 weeks of leave for the low low price of 3 - because of Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks.

Our district matches up to 15 days of leave, so we can get six weeks of paid leave and the breaks only add to that - for free!  Smile

cons: ummm....I can't think of any.  Oh! I hate topaz, so the birthstone sucks. Stick out tongue

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.  I have several friends that are unable to get pregnant so to me, any month is great!!!

It took us over a year and drugs and a fertility specialist to get pg, so amen to this.  I'm due 11/2, so a couple days early would be a Halloween baby, which would be awesome.  And either way, Halloween themed bday parties are in the future, which is pretty cool.

  • Pros: Will be here before the holidays, what a great gift!

Cons: Will be pregnant during the hot southern summer!

  • Pros: Not too big of a belly in the summer months.

The only Con I can think of is that baby will have to stay in for 5 months to avoid the cold weather of Canada.

  • We're blessed to have a baby anytime

However I don't do well in the heat as it is so I imagine this summer being 5-6 months pg when its 100+ outside will be pretty uncomfortable

pros: Fall is my favorite season so it's appropriate for our little one to arrive in the fall.

  • I actually am happy my 2nd tri will be in the summer vs. the 1st or 3rd when I'm either really sick or really uncomfortable.  I can't think of any cons!

  • QOTD - What do you think are the pros/cons of a November baby?

Pros- DH and I got engaged on Thanksgiving Day in 2007 so it is a special month for us--now even more special!  Something extra to be thankful for!

Cons- November is very cold and the months that follow are cold as well so I feel like the poor little babe will be stuck in the house most of the time til he/she is like 6 months old.

Really no real cons--we are thrilled!

  • The holidays are a always a really special time for our family.  DH and I love to entertain and Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners are usually at our house.  We are really looking forward to having our new little one around for all of the festivities this year.  Thanksgiving might be a little rough, but DH is a huge help in the kitchen so we are still hoping to have dinner at our house...unless of course our little pumpkin pie decides to make an appearance that day!

The only bad thing (and it's not really all that bad for me) is that the end of the year is usually a really busy time at work.  My manager has made  comments like " it is really bad timing" and "is 6 weeks really the earliest the daycare center will take new babies?"  But DH and I aren't exactly planning our family around her schedule so she will get over it!

  • There may be an issue with my maternity leave. The union and I read the contract to say 6 weeks (30 days) of maternity leave. The district is reading that as actual days from birth and we are reading it as working days. With all the breaks for Thanksgiving and the holidays I am hoping my "30 days" will last until the end of Jan. when you figure in the breaks. I have that meeting with my principal today. Wish me luck.

For some reason all my friends are freaked out it is going to be a scorpio. ???

  • Pros- Having the holidays and end of the year off. Work gets sorta crazy around that time, glad I won't be around to deal with it all! Also, celebrating baby's first Christmas right away. Bring on the Santa or Elf suit. He he.

Cons- There's usually snow on the ground by November here in Northern MN, so I won't be able to walk outside at all. And poor baby will have to be bundled up all the time until at least April (it's still only in the 30s here!). And we'll see about being preggers in the summer. Rumor has it that it's supposed to be a pretty average summer, hopefully not too many hot days!

  • I'm a November baby and I've never minded having my b-day in the winter. The only thing I'm worried about is the thought of having to possibly drive to the hospital in snow or even worse an all out a blizzard when I go into labor. How horrible would that be? It will also be nice to not be huge over the summer months.

Not looking foward to raising a new born around cold/flu season.

  • QOTD: This will probably sound ridiculous but I always wanted my kids to have a birthday during the school year so that more kids will be available to come to birthdays.  I have a close friend with an August b-day and everyone was always on vacation for her b-day.  Totally stupid but I think it's a pro.

I also think November is far enough from Christmas that the child won't be in that terrible Christmas / Birthday present hell (my mom and best friend both have birthdays on Dec 19th and they always get ripped off!!).

  • I'm really excited to deliver in November.  I'll be at my biggest at the end of the summer, so I dont think it will be that bad.  Hopefully!  Plus I think it will be extra special for the holidays.

I'm also Canadian, so I am looking forward to having the summer off with the baby and going for lots of walks.  I have two friends who are due in October and my SIL is due in August.  So that will be perfect. Lots of play dates. lol

  • I actually don't have any cons.  My other kids b-days are April and July so November keeps them all at a nice distance.  I am looking forward to having a NB at the holidays because I haven't before, but I'm glad that I'll be back on my feet before Christmas.  A December due date would have been tough with two older ones.  And although we'll be pg in the summer, I have a friend who had both of her kids in November and said being pg in the summer wasn't bad because you are in your 2nd tri so you aren't too hot or uncomfortable.
  • Pros: I will be off work for the holidays (thanksgiving and x-mas)

Cons: Baby might be born on Halloween.(due date 11/6/09)

  • Pro's: having a newborn for the Holiday's, no guilt over holiday eating...still eating for 2!

Cons: 6 Months Preggers in SW Florida in the summer = HELL

  • Cons - it will start getting cold outside, so I know that I won't want to take the baby out much to prevent any sickness.

Pros - I like that he/she will be born close to the holidays so we can show him/her off to family we only see during the holidays.  and buying little holiday outfits will be fun!

  • Hi Everyone,

QOTD - What do you think are the pros/cons of a November baby? (thanks FLVintageBride)

For our family, a con is that all the kids seem to be born in November so it's an issue when it comes to planning family birthdays. Of the 5 grandkids (ours included), 4 of them have November birthdays and it's already a nightmare trying to get the family together. Once ours is born, it's just going to get worse for my poor in-laws who want to celebrate with all their grandkids, but driving between cities each weekend is just not realistic, and my one SIL refuses to do 'group' birthday parties. Ugh.

But despite all that, we're thrilled for November!
