3rd Trimester

Re: Hospital Tour

So DH and I went on the hospital tour this past sunday, and I must say that it went quite well.  We learned that all of the newly renovated postpartum rooms are ALL private, and we don't have to pay extra for private room. Before the renovation insurance only covered their semi-private rooms (a room shared with another woman **with one bath room**), and if we would have wanted a private room it would have been $60.00 a day for three days! The rooms are now much nicer and updated! If the renovation would not have been completed by the birth of our baby we were considering switching hospitals because of the outdated rooms and the fee that they required you to pay! In Houston there are many hospitals who's maternity floors looks like an actual 5 star hotels, and all of their rooms are private with jacuzzi tubs and room service! I would just had to drive a little further! I guess we will stay with the hosptial we are at, but their are still much nicer ones!

  • If a longer drive is going to save you money and make you more comfortable I say drive!

  • I'm glad you feel better about the hospital stay now.  Having a private room will be very nice so you and your family can bond with the new baby and recover in peace without someone else's family trying to have their own experience in the same room -- and sharing a bathroom!

Our insurance also only covers "semi-private" but the L&D dept. at our hospital ONLY has private suites with private bathrooms, so they cover that.  It's one room for LDRP, which is super nice.

  • $60 a day isn't bad at all... at my hospital they are $100... they are also in the process of making all of the rooms private (once it is completed there will be no charge)... it should be done in spring (whatever that means) but i don't know if it will be compelted by the time i have my little one.
  • We actually ended up switching doctors so I'm now delivering at a hospital where the private rooms at $75 a night.  The hospital we would have delivered at with my old doctor?....the private rooms were $750 a night.  Granted it was in NYC and space is limited, but DH and I both almost fainted when we heard that number.
