3rd Trimester

Sleeping on a shower curtain isn't all it's cracked up to be.

My Mother told me to get a plastic mattress protector for the bed in case my water breaks in the midle of the night. This sounds like a good plan since a new mattress would be $$$.

Well, where I live, I cannot find a king sized mattress protector. So, I improvised and bought a shower curtain liner. I put it under the fitted sheet last night and while it is not too noisy to sleep on it certainly smells like nasty plastic and makes you hot as heck all night!

  • Can you order one online? Bed bath and beyond sells them.

If not, go to a pet store and get a package of pee pads. You can put them under your fitted sheet. They hardly make any noise at all and they are much softer than a shower curtain.

  • Pee pads!! Good idea...we have some left from when our dog was a puppy.

I could order one online I guess but the shipping from BB&B from the US to Canada is not really worth it:(

  • i have read a couple of ladies stories of where their water broke in bed and it didnt ruin their matresses and the likelihood of your water actually breaking in bed is pretty low so I wouldnt worry to much about it. Also maybe use those big black garbage bags and tape it some how? haha i dont that is kinda redneck
  • Ditto pee pads.  They're basically the same as the chucks they use in the hospital.

  • girl- you can NOT sleep like that. It is hard enough to sleep when pg!

You will also want a nice waterproof mattress protector when baby is here - b/c you WILL have the baby in your bed at some point - and he/she WILL pee, poop or puke all over your bed - and you will be very happy you had a waterproof mattress pad.

they make them really nice- feel like cotton- not plastic - i'm sure you could find them a million places online.  Bedding stores carry them, too- where you'd buy a mattress- that is where we got ours.

Lol, I used to stick them on my couch when my grandfather came to visit. I'll be putting a bunch on my bed this weekend, too. I know the odds of my water breaking in bed are small, but my mattress was also really expensive, and I would die if it got ruined.

  • Maybe you won't have too long to sleep on it and the smell will fade in the next few days, I'm sure.

And PS: You look super hot and adorable in your siggy picture!  Very cute top -- great color on you!

  • QVC  sells a nice water proof mattress pad from Northern Nights- and you can return if you do not like it.
  • You can order waterproof mattress covers from Target and like pp said, you'll want one after baby is here! The chances of ruining your mattress with amniotic fluid is pretty low. Especially at 35 weeks!! No way I would spend the next 5-7 weeks sleeping on a shower curtain.
