Amniotic Fluid

in 3rd Trimester
I've heard it stains and leaves a smell and I've heard it doesn't do either...which is it?  Does it vary person to person?

    no stains,it is clear and thin..like water! lol. If it is cloudy/dark it is meconium and is the babies first BM...a bad thing.

    This... also my dr. said if it's tinged green it may be meconium as well!

    I know in my one baby book it says you should sleep with a waterproof mattress cover because amniotic fluid can ruin a mattress...my guess would be not because of a stain but maybe because it gets so saturated that it is hard to dry out???
