Am I the only one w/a 2.5 DS not interested in potty training?

It seems like everyone I know with girls are already pt'd at 2.5 yr old.  My DS could care a less if he is in a poopy diaper, does not tell me when he needs to go and simply has no interest.  Have I done something wrong? I dont want to force it but am feeling bad about this.

  • Don't feel bad. My DS is 2 years, 8 months and has zero interest. He sometimes pees on the potty before bathtime and that's about it (and it's only sometimes). Our pedi and most of our friends with older kids say boys almost always PT much closer to 3 and after.

  • He's not quite 2.5, but he has less than zero interest in it and I'm just following his lead on it.

  • welcome to potty training a boy. oh i can"t speak for all boys. but it sounds familiar.  matt started to sitting and going on the potty a little after 2 1/2.  sean, who we thought would want to be just like his big brother is not all that interested.  he sits and goes sometimes but could care a less about wetting his underwear.  just encourage potty time.  matt sat forever before actually going.

  • Well I have a DD, but she has no interest in the potty.  She used to at least sit on it, but not anymore.  I have given up for the moment and maybe in another month or so I will try again.

    So no, you're not alone.

  • Nope, no interest from my DS here either.?
  • My son does the same thing. He has gone a few times at home, but he is not consistent with it. He also could care less that he sits in a dirty diaper. I just figured I would work more with him once his baby sister arrives.

Nest babies are way ahead of anyone I know IRL. Wink

My son was fully trained at 3.5. At 2.5 he was nowhere near ready.

When he started in the 3s at preschool, I think only two or three kids out of a class of 15 or so were pt'ed.

  • Mine turns 3 this week. He WAS interested, and doing really well. Then after a while he got bored with it and started demanding pullups (during the success phase these were only for overnight). I asked why and he told me quite clearly "because I have accidents and I don't want to stop playing and go toilet". Well. That'll teach me.

Not sure what to do next. I don't want to force him. At the moment I'm just trying to get him to go to the toilet regularly even if he won't wee and still wets the pull ups. I figure if he has to go to the toilet anyway he may figure he might as well tell me when.

Who knows! But I was impressed with the explanation.

  • Sounds like a normal 2.5 y/o boy to me.  Just start talking about being a big boy, what big boys can do, etc.  I wish I'd started talking it up sooner with my DS.  I started PT'g him about 2 3/4 and now almost a year later he is 99% PT'd.  It's been a LONG year!
  • My ds is 2 years and 8 months and has zero interest.  Waiting patiently and keep asking, but no go yet.
